Greetings - Most likely the router is setup with a certain security type, such as WEP or WPA of which there are several types each.
Your laptop and Ipad have to be setup for the same kind of security as the router then the security key will work.
If you setup the router you have to log back into the router settings and see what kind of security is setup and what the login password is. If you didn't setup the router the person who did has to tell you what the security settings on your devices should be.
To secure your wireless network you first need to log into your routers configuration settings to do that in your address bar of your browser type http://192.168.0.2 enable either WEP or WPA security and tell it what security key or pass phrase to use.
Then on your computer when you try to connect to your wireless routers signal it will ask you to put in the security key or pass phrase you selected and thats that. You are secure.
Hi, Please access the web interface of the router and confirm the security key. Also, you can try to change the security key. It can be a possibility that your computer is not synchronizing properly with the current security settings. If you find that you are putting the right security key then please change the security type to wep 64 bit or wep 128 bit and configure a new key. Also, change the SSID or the network name and try to connect. In case of any issues please let me know which windows you are running and the security settings on the router. Thanks, Rashish
The wireless key is not the userid, WEP is the network authentication(security), the key is the passphrase you entered associated in the security settings of the router.
Is there any computer online using the router. If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router. If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer. router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.
You need to setup the wireless security ON on the router by loggin in to router setup page for that you need to connect the router with a ethernet cable with the computer or laptop and open the router setup page with router IP in internet browser, if you can tell me the model number of the router and brand i can give you step by step process to setup the security on the router.
on selecting the security as any apart from none the light comes on
Your security key is usually in brackets on the bottom of the router. If a key was not provided with the router, you might want to call your internet service provider and ask them what it is. Also, the security key (password) for the router could have been changed at one time from the number that is on the bottom of the router.
the PS3 connects to router via a crossover cable yes?
you may need to manualy set the PS3 as a trusted acception in the routers security system, (using either its MAC address, or its set IP address if u manually gave the PS3 one)
