Hi I own a 1996 VW Transporter 1.9td. The alternator has recently been replaced. The problem is that when it is started the battery light stays on and the oil warning light flashes. This does go away if the van is restarted or, when left to run, a click is heard then the lights stop flashing. Is this a relay problem? Thanks. Alex

Hi. I had this too after new alternator. It didn't like it. Had alternator tested and all ok. Auto electrician fitted an ordinary bulb in circuit using a feed from reversing light switch and tucked it away in battery box. It fools the system and works perfectly. He did explain

ut can't quite remember. A good auto electrician will know exactly What to do. I hate vw's all their electrics are too quirky and cause many costly problems. Hope thus helps

Hi I drive a 2006 Vw Transporter 2.8 TDI, the glow plug light

You've probably solved this by now, but just in case... it's your particulates filter clogging up and needs 'regeneration' by VW techs. They take it on the road and with the aid of a laptop on the pax seat, inject fuel into particulates filter and 'burn it out' it'll cost you 200 quid at a vw dealer.

I have a VW transporter 2002 t4 2.5 TDi, what Amps should the alternator be?

Hi,

Either 90A or 120A, I have found both of these fitted to 2.5L T4's.
I recently upgraded my 90A up to 120A with no problems.

Cheers Trev.

VW transporter power problem

Hi nick. I have a T5 04 model and recently had the same problem. i was told it was a blown turbo so i had a friend look at it and turbo was fine. got vw to run a diagnostics and it had a broken wire running from the charge pressure meter. replaced for 9 euro. 3 weeks later same problem and it turned out to be a loose plug on the air mass meter. now its perfect again. apparently what happens is that if the engin management is getting a wrong reading from the pressure meter it limits the van to 40 horse power for fear of blowing the engine. whenever i switched the van off and back on the problem would fix itself but as time went on it got worse until complete failure. the wire is located under the coolant resivoir. dont know exactly where though. email me on [email protected] if you need to know more. if it does turn out to be the turbo (which i doubt) then there is a website called CRTurbos that seem to be the cheapest around. but i seen another forum where the turbos were replaced and the problem remained. I suggest first look at the charge pressure meter.

New batter but battery light stays on

Your alternator must be defective, that is what turns on the light. Replace the alternator.

VW polo alternator light stays on

Yes, by connecting the charger the wrong way round you have damaged the rectifier in the alternator, now needs a replacement
