1. Sometimes it fails to initialize, and a simple restart would fix it.
2. If a restart didn't fix it, go into Device Manager and see if it appears on the list, under Network or Other.
2a. If it does, try reinstalling the drivers for it.
2b. If it doesn't, turn off the PC, and reseat the network card in the slot.
3. If it's onboard, and can't be reseated, you might have to buy a new network card.

After the attack of windows recovery virus, network adapter is not working. LAN icon in lower rightmost of desktop is not visible

Please reinstall your motherboards drivers from your driver installation disk. During healing or cleaning of the infected files, some of the files that your computer needs to have a lan has been lost or worst destroyed. So then reinstall your motherboard drivers or use system restore and restore your computer to an earlier time when you think it is working properly. Hope this would give you an idea.. Have a nice day friend ! :)

I want to network two pc with windows xp using crossover cable,, how do i do it step by step pls.

Connect two computers using a crossover cable
If you need to connect two computers but you don't have access to a network and can't set up an ad hoc network, you can use an Ethernet crossover cable to create a direct cable connection.
Generally speaking, a crossover cable is constructed by reversing ("crossing over") the order of the wires inside so that it can connect two computers directly. A crossover cable looks almost exactly like a regular Ethernet cable (a "straight-through" cable), so make sure you have a crossover cable before following these steps.
Before buying a crossover cable, check your network adapter. Some newer network adapters automatically "cross over" when they detect that they are connected directly to another network adapter using a regular Ethernet cable.
To connect two computers with a crossover cable
This works best if both computers are running this version of Windows.
Plug each end of the crossover cable into a network port on the back of each computer.
On one of the computers that is running this version of Windows, do the following:
Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Network and Sharing Center.
In the network map at the top of Network and Sharing Center, double-click the Unidentified network? icon. (If you have more than one network, this icon will be labeled Multiple networks.)
If network discovery and file sharing are turned off, in Network, click the Information bar containing the following message: "Network discovery and file sharing are turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change...," and then click Turn on network discovery and file sharing. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
In the Network discovery and file sharing dialog box, select one of the following options:
No, make the network that I am connected to a private network
Yes, turn on network discovery and file sharing for all public networks
The first option is usually the best choice because it only affects the network that you are connected to.
Notes
Networks created with crossover cables are automatically set up as "Public place" networks, which means that network discovery, file sharing, and printer sharing are off by default.
For Gigabit Ethernet or token ring networks, you will need a slightly different kind of crossover cable. For more information, contact a cable manufacturer.
Icons for both computers should now be visible in the Network window. Double-click each computer icon to share printers and other resources.
Note
If one of the computers is running Windows XP, it can take some time for that computer to appear in the Network window. You might need to move both computers to the same workgroup. You can do that by changing the workgroup on either computer. To change a workgroup, see Join or create a workgroup. You might also need to turn on file and printer sharing on the computer running Windows XP.
Hope this help!

When i connect to computer ethernet light does not come on

If the link LED does not light up on the computer then the fault is most likely a faulty LAN cable or the LAN card is faulty.
Replace the cable first and if this doesn't work check the LAN card and reinstall the LAN driver. If this doesn't work then then LAN card is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I have aa ACER X3200 and the net work adapter will not recognize the LAN plugged in. The LAN source is active and works on other computers I have.

Check the Network Connections (in control panel) to see if the LAN connection is enabled. If not there, you'll need to setup a new network connection. If it is there, right-click the connection icon and choose enable.

You can also check the Device Manager to see if the network adapter is listed and working without errors.

Ethenet not reconized

Hi, If your son' s computer has a LAN port, then install the LAN driver. LAN port is different from modem. Modem is used for dial-up connection while LAN uses broadband or dsl connection. If you do not know where or how to find the LAN driver, post the manufacturer and model name of your LAN or the motherboard. You can also find it by right clicking the My Computer icon->Manage->Device Manager. On the right side, Expand the Network Adapter. You will then find the software that you are going to reinstall. Another thing is to try to update the driver if it works or not. Here are the steps :
  1. Right click My Computer icon.
  2. Click Manage
  3. A box will appear (Computer Management), Click Device Manager
  4. On the right side, Click and expand Network Adapters
  5. Right click the software, click update driver.
  6. Wait 'til it finds the necessary software.
  7. If it does, then your finished installing the Network Adapter driver. If it says it cannot find the necessary software, you have to manually install it.
  8. IF NOT yet installed, copy the Network Adapter software and paste it in google to find your Network Adapter installer.
I hope this fix your problem. Drop me a comment again if you encounter some problems, ok? I will assist you.

Will not reconize ethernet cable

Please ensure the following:

1. Make sure you use the LAN port.
2. Ensure the cable is in good condition. Try using new cable.
3. Ensure you installed proper network card driver.
4. Ensure the network card using correct link speed (100Mbps).
5. Try switching the link speed to Auto, if you're not sure.

These are the basics. If possible, try installing the latest firmware for your network card. Normally, downloadable from the manufacture's site.

Maha

Sony PCG-4g1m

Plug in the LAN cable (CAT 5) into your laptop network jack. Make sure the other side is plug into the network outlet jack. Now confirm that you have a link on your LAN adapter, if your laptop has lights for the LAN adapter built in. If it doesn't don't worry. If its connected windows xp will say if its connected or not. If its connected it will try to find a IP address. Make sure DHCP is enabled (Should be set as DHCP as default anyways) if your laptop doesn't get and IP address then there's something wrong with the network your connected to and not your laptop. Contact the system administrator (IT guys) in charged of that network.

**** IF AND ONLY IF***
IF there's no network icon in the taskbar tray then your network adapter is disabled. To enable this right click the network icon on your desktop and select properties now a windows opens up and right click on your LAN adapter and select enable... let windows do its magic and you should be back to normal.

GOOD LUCK!
