I wonder if you have Windows Mobile Device Center running, as well as Outlook (for calendar, contacts, tasks and e-mail synchronization) installed on your PC. Link for downloading WMDC is here, anyway, for your convenience.
Hope you are able to sort your problems out soon.
Please, let me know if I can help you any further.
Regards, Carlos

Sorry if my post wasn't helpful at all to you. Anyway, do you have both Outlook and WMDC installed, and, yet, keep being unable to sync your WM phone? Could you provide more informations, such as any error message (if any) you get when you connect your phone? Other thoughts: is ActiveSync automatically launched on your phone when you connect it to your PC (run any task manager to see it)? Otherwise, go to 'Start > Programs > ActiveSync' prior to connecting it.

  • jbachman258 Nov 09, 2010

I have the latest version of WMDC, I start active sync on the phone before and after connecting (tried both). Outlook is open on the desktop. No error message. Both the computer and phone are setup to use USB to connect. I had it connecting before, but the phone would not boot properly last week. I had to remove the memory card to get it booted. But when I ran my backup program (spb) to restore all my contacts and files, that failed. And since it won't sync to my computer I can't reload the contacts from Outlook.

Try this: go to 'Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC'. If the 'advanced...' box is checked, uncheck it. Otherwise, check it. Try to connect. If it keeps failing, try to go back to the previous setiings. Please, let me know the results.

  • jbachman258 Nov 10, 2010

With it checked it tries to connect and then WMDC shows error at the bottom left where it said connecting when trying. With it checked it doesn't even try to connect.

So, you seem to get some effect, after all. Have you already tried to uninstall and reinstall WMDC? And perhaps a reboot on both your PC and phone afterwards, might somehow help, too.

TO BE ABLE TO CONNECT MY HTC HERO PHONE TO PC

Step 1: Connect your phone

Grab your phone and the USB cable that came with it. If you need some additional help setting up and using your new phone, see Windows Phone 6.5 basics for more information.
Step 2: Download the sync software for your computer

Choose the sync software for your computer's operating system, which you can download here:

  • • If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, your sync settings will be managed through Windows Mobile Device Center.
  • • If you have Windows XP SP3, your sync settings will be managed through ActiveSync which can be downloaded from MS website.

ActiveSync is not available for Windows 7, however you can use Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center that will do the same thing: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=46f72df1-e46a-4a5f-a791-09f07aaa1914
