It sounds like you are in the V menu. Go to the A menu and set an ordinary straight stitch. Also, check the Sewing Advisor - set it for medium weight woven, seam. Check that the feed dogs are up. It may be that the circuitry behind the button panel needs looking at and you need to take it to a repair shop for that.

I have a Brother XL 3500 what do I set the dials on for a basting stitch

What is the stitch length for a basting stitch?

Basting a Seam for Fitting:

At the sewing machine, set the stitch length to 5mm. This will make it easy to remove any unwanted stitches. Sew the seam at the desired seam allowance. After fitting and the adjustments have been made, sew the seam with a normal stitch length of 2.4mm.

Gummed up baste stitch finger on bernina 1130. how can I fix it?

If you can join the Yahoo group "BerninaThirtySomethings," there are a lot of conversations there and documents that explain how to fix the stuck basting stitch. It is rather difficult to explain so that would be the best source. (You will need a Yahoo email account to join the group.) A Bernina technician can release that for you.

How do you machine baste on a brother PE 830DL I am wanting to embroider on stretch material and I was told to float the stretch material and baste it to the tear away in the hoop thanks

A basting stitch is just a matter of setting the stitch length to very long. If you want to remove the basting stitch after your project is complete, you can also loosen the top tension so the bobbin thread will pull out very easily.

Wondering if a wash-away fabric spray adhesive will work just as well.

How do I correct stitch length mechanism to produce 6 stitches per inch?

the stitch length is governed by the cam action connected to the walking foot
that means that the stitch length is governed by the amount of material that is pulled through in the period of time that the needle comes up and goes down
normally the cam action is set by the stitch length lever/ reverse lever
if there is a necessity for a longer stitch, the cam would have to be changed on the drive shaft underneath
That will require a discussion with a sewing machine mechanic to determine if there are cams or other linkages that can be fitted to alter the stitch length for the manufactured maximum

How do I set the machine to do a basting stich

if the machine can do a basting stitch the information should be in the sewing machine manual, if you don't have a manual, add a comment with the name and model number of the machine and someone should be able to help you find one.

or you can also try youtube for a video

[email protected] needle on my Bernina 1530 Inspiration just stopped going up and down whether I use the foot pedal or manually attempt to move the needle

This sounds like you have the machine in bobbin winding mode, just refer to your manual to take it out of bobbin winding mode. I'm not familier with your exact model, but the is typically a lever, or button that is used to wind bobbins, so the needle doesn't keep sewing without the bobbin thread in place.

Please rate my solution thanks

Fix button won't work in embroidery mode

Just to make sure you know what "Fix" does in Embroidery Mode - you press it before you start your embroidery then when you press Start, the machine will baste a square or rectangle the size of your embroidery before moving back to the centre ready to start the actual embroidery. It is not used to Fix stitches in embroidery mode (like it does in regular sewing mode) and it must be used before the embroidery is begun if you want the basting. Is this problem you have? It will not do the baste stitch?

Husky 165 - won't do a basting stitch

Set the machine to its longest stitch length, put it in the warmest room in your house and in the sun if possible. If the stitch gets longer when the machine is warm it needs to be cleaned and lubed so that the stitch length mechanism moves freely.

If the lube in the machine is getting old or is nonexistent, the reverse button may be depressed and appear to return to its original position, when released, but the mechanism inside the machine only returns part of the way causing the length to be shorter than normal. Heat often masks this problem allowing the mechanism to move.

Long stitch!!

Hi teza...I assume that you have decreased your stitch length selector resulting in no change, indicating that the internal stitch length mechanism is either insufficiently lubricated, or truly broken If not broken, you can work the mechanism free by removing your needle, selecting the maximum stitch length and any non-overlock stich pattern, ie. straight or zigzag, fully depress your foot pedal so it runs at maximum speed, and methodically press and release the Reverse button/lever. After a minute of this, hand crank your machine while observing the feed dogs, and changing your stitch length. If your stich length is set to 0, your should observe your feed dogs moving vertically up and down with no back/forward motion, however, increasing as you lengthen your stitch length. Repeat the previous high speed work out until you notice full strokes of your feed dog...good luck my friend
