Shut off my Dell last night. When to sign in in the morning and when I did the Ctrl, Alt, Delete - nothing happened. is it shot or can i fix it ej

possible fixes:
1) run antispyware and antivirus
2) In XP PRO then try turning the Task Manager Disable facility on and then off again. It should be set to off or 'not configured'.

For turning Task manager On/Off

Start, Run, type gpedit.msc,OK

In left hand pane Double click Admin Options.
Double click System,
Click Ctrl, Alt, Delete.

Then in right hand pane double click Ctrl, Alt, Del. This opens up 'Task Manager Disable/Enable' facility..

Setting on radio buttons should be either disabled or 'not configured' If so select enable (this turns Task Manager Off), Apply, OK.

CD drive not working

Based on your indication the CD drive is clean, and you know the cables are attached to it, inside the computer. (Flat ribbon IDE interface cable, and 4-pin Molex connector power cable)

1.Go to Device Manager

Left-click on Start. Right-click on My Computer. Go down, and Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Hardware tab. Go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.

Left-click on the + sign to the left of, DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click right on the name of the CD drive.

(Example: Lite On DVDRW LH-20A1P.
eMachines Support indicates the T5212 has a DVD burner drive, and a CD drive. Right-click on the CD drive name))

In the drop down list, Left-click on Properties.
Left-click on the Driver tab
Go below, and Left-click on the Update Driver 'button'. Now go below, and Left-click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Shut your computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)

Do Not Restart. We need a 'Hard Shut Down'.
Wait 1 minute, turn your computer on.

Still doesn't work?
Let's play hard ball.

2.Go back to Device Manager. Left-click on the + sign to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the name of the CD drive. Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Driver tab.
This time go down, and Left-click on the Uninstall 'button'. Go below, and Left-click on OK

There will be a Microsoft 'squawk box' that comes up. "Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
Left-click on OK. (It IS okay!)

Close all windows. Shut down your computer normally. (Again, we need a 'Hard Shut Down'. To Restart a computer is known as a 'Soft Shut Down')

Wait 1 minute. Turn your computer on.
After Windows loads all the way, and all of your Start Menu programs have loaded, you should see a pop-up out of your system tray. (Bottom of Windows desktop screen)

"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XYZ CD drive". (XYZ = the CD drive name)

No still?

The driver for your CD drive, is located within the Windows XP operating system on your computer.
If your CD drive does not work now, I suggest it has failed.

Drives such as Optical drives, and Harddrives, are mechanical devices. Their 'Lifespan', is rated in so many hours of usage. Your CD drive may be at the end of it's 'Lifespan'.

After turning on the computer, nothing happens.

Hi Becky,

It sounds like you may have something suspicious going on in the background. As a start I would recommend downloading MalWareBytes AntiMalware (here)

Install the software, at the end of the installation it will ask you if you want to update and run the program. I would advise doing both and letting it preform a quick scan when it starts up.

Give that a shot, if you notice the program found a lot of suspicious entries, remove them and reboot..

Best of luck!

  12. If the Samsung Media Studio program does not open up at this time disconnect the reconnect the YP-T9J and this should then open the program.
NOTE: If this does not fix the issue, first try to uninstall then reinstall the Samsung Media Studio Program.
