I have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212 SATA and i had no problems with it till i installed windows 7 and rendered my dvd-rom useless. It no longers reads cd's or dvd's and sometimes dissapears and only appears again after a few shutdowns or restarts. I've tried windows 7 quickfix and winfix to solve my problem but it didn't help at all.I have learned my lesson and will probably remain with xp many years from now. Is this a problem that can be solved with a certain driver or firmware or are the two(w7 and this pioneer product) incompatible and i should change my dvd-rom ?

SOURCE: My PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K15 ATA Device read cd no DVD

have you had any virus infections? I would download malware bytes and rootkit revealer to see if you have any viruses or rootkits you should email me at [email protected]
and you might have a rootkit that is causing issues with the dvd read/write. otherwise a failing device.
you could also burn puppylinux on a cd, run it and see if you can pop in a dvd and see if it reads the media. if so you are looking at a windows software file or virus issue.

Try the dangerous brothers on google they have all firmwares check carefully that match your dvd, this is at your own risk, but usual vaio should come with a back up cd where you can roll back your drivers

I can't write DVD with my Pioneer DVR-107D DVD±RW

What brand of media are you using?

You are burning at 2x because that is the highest that this drive supports.

You would also want to instruct Nero to Verify by ticking the check box and either finalize disc or make it mulitsession, if your burner supports multisession DVDs

Pioneer DVD Burner no longer reading burnt disks...

yes your quite correct, starforce once installed can damage the fimware more so for multi writers, a common problem will be slower recording speeds. It can even damage the hardware itself and render the writer totally useless. If your getting to that stage, for the price of a new writer, it's not worth the worry, replacing the drive is the only answer.

My pioneer dvd does no longer read dvd but play and burns cd and vcd well

Give this a try, if no change, the dvd rom may have to be replaced:- Try My computer>properties>devicemanager>hardware tab, then click on the '+' sign on the DVD/CDROM drives line. Right click your DVD then click uninstall. Restart your pc and let Windows find it again, see if it sorts itself out. If it's getting on a bit try a lens cleaner also.
