Question about Pioneer DVR-610 (DVR610B5PK) DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

Pioneer DVD Burner no longer reading burnt disks...

I have a Pioneer DVR-610 DVD+-RW Dual Layer Burner. Recently I noticed that my DVD burner will no longer read burnt DVDs. Although it will read commercial DVDs and CD's. I have tested the DVDs that it will not read on another computer and they are readable on that DVD drive but not mine. Also some of these disks used to be readable on my drive before this problem started. I have upated the firmware from 1.21 to 1.41 and this did not solve the problem. I suspect that starforce copy protection might be the issue because I installed a game with it not too long ago. I did run the starforce removal tool and the drive still doesn't work. I have heard others say that starforce perminantly changed their drives firmware. I am running Windows XP x64 and Windows XP Pro. I intalled the starforce copy protection enabled game on both partitions but the removal tool only found starforce on my XP pro partition. Could this be the issue?

Yes your quite correct, starforce once installed can damage the fimware more so for multi writers, a common problem will be slower recording speeds. It can even damage the hardware itself and render the writer totally useless. If your getting to that stage, for the price of a new writer, it's not worth the worry, replacing the drive is the only answer.

When I insert a blank DVD-R disk into my Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D burner, no "untitled disk" icon appears on my desktop. I am using a Mac mini computer. This is the first time this has happened...

Go into your system profiler. Make sure the DVD is showing up. Click the DVD and check what disks it can use and make sure the disks you are using are compatible.

Best of luck, Jim

My drive is listed as DVD-RW-DVR-lllD, but when I put a DVD disk into it, it changes automatic to CD-RW Drive E. How do I keep it as a DVD burner?

Try burning a disk, and taking the burnt disk to another computer, to see if the other computer recognizes the media as being a DVD disk.

Pioneer DVR-109 DVD±RW...

This ahs to with speed of recording of the CD/DVD try reading CD/DVD burnt at a lower speed like 16x.

Most DVD writers has low maximum reading speed as compared to CD-ROMs.

You can try burning a CD on it and then reading it, if reads then it shows that other cd were burnt at faster speed than it can read.

If it read lower speed CDs then you can just add an additional DVD/CD-ROM just to read faster speed disks.

My dvd burneer wont reconise dvd discs

This is correct, as there is no TOC on a blank disk there is nothing to read. it is your writing software that identifies blank media when inserted, so you may wish to check your software is appropriate for your requirements Cheers :D
