I am trying to use dual monitor mode, which I do all the time with D830 Latitude - but not with this monitor. I am getting a "Cannot Display This Video Mode". When I go to monitor properties, it's at 60 mhz (only choice). Any ideas?

Your PC video resolution is too high for the monitor to support, you need to set it to 1280x1024 @60Hz which is the native resolution for this monitor.

Hello Jake,

In order to activate the "Presentation Mode" you have to press and maintain the 'Fn' key and press 'F8' with your external monitor connected.

Presentation mode disabled on a E6500

When using latitude E6500 try hitting fn+f8 to cycle between presentation modes, duplicate extend, projector only. If using Windows 7 also try win+P.
If these do not work; Right click on the desktop, or go into the control panel and look at the NVidia Control panel settings. There should be an external monitor setup tool.

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D830. The display was off. I can connect extrenal monitor for current work. Please advise if I need replace display or motherboard ? Thanks Alex

Before replacing anything verify that your laptops display type didn't get changed to VGA out only.
look at your function keys (usually top one or two rows ) and look for the key that has a pc/monitor icon. with the machine powered up and connected to the external monitor press the function (FN button lower left of keyboard) and the video/monitor button at the same time. most laptops have 3 settings:
laptop display only, external display only and laptop and external display. Press the FN/Display button at lease 3 times waiting 3-5 seconds between keystrokes. I have seen this many times where the FN/display button keys are hit inadvertently.
Typically if the motherboard or video card fail the external monitor would not work either.

Can't get two screens to work - says presentation mode off

Press FN-8 a few times, to try each option:
* internal screen only
* external monitor only
* both

That should do it.

Hi, you may have dual monitors activated which is a possible reason for the dvd not being playable. try holding down the fn key in the bottom corner of your keyboard and then tapping the f7 key. if your screen goes black, tap it again. you are cycling the display options. play around with tapping that key and starting the program. you may also right click the desktop>personalize>display settings, and make sure that your display is 32 bit and utilizing the maximum number of pixels it can. if you are using windows vista basic or business, you may need to download DVD codecs from microsoft or and affiliate's website.

How do i enable presentation mode?

toggle between screen display modes by holding function and f8 together- there may be a few seconds delay between each settings so be patient
if that fails , then goto display settings and in advanced you should be able to select the displays you want.
