When I try to set my new HP 4780 Photosmart wireless printer up on my home computer (Dell Dimension 3000) running Windows XP Pro. I get the same error messsage each time in step 4 of the setup process and I'm unable to complete the setup. I have the printer connected to the computer's USB port for use as a non wireless printer. The following error message is whatt displays in step 4: " The installer cannot access this registry key" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Currentcontrolset\Enum. Has anyone else had this problem and can it be resolved?

Are you logged-in to an 'Administrator' account, or as a 'Power User' or 'Limited User' account ?

Try installing the software while logged-in as an 'administrator'.

SOURCE: I have a cisco WRT160 router and have lost wireless to laptop

Change all the wireless settings of the router.
Change the SSID ( network name ). change the SSID something new that you never tried before. change the security to WPA personal.
change the channel to 6.
make sure the wireless MAC filter is disabled.
under advanced wireless settings change the beacon interval to 75.

Now on your computer try to connect to the new network name.

see if that works.
If that doesn't work then try to upgrade the firmware./

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
If your network is secured then make sure that you are typing the correct network key.
also make sure that the DHCP server is enabled on the router.
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

SOURCE: I am trying to connect

If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy New Year!

Can"t get it to scan. not on wireless.HP 4780 photosmart

You are saying that the printer/scanner is directly connected to the computer?

You need to start checking the physical connection. Make sure that you can print to make sure that the printer is being recognized by the computer.

Second, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer/scanner driver using the CD that came with it. Most of the time, it's the driver that causing the problem.

Hope this helps and have a good day!

HP Photosmart c4280 Unwanted Output

I know that it sounds simple. But have you turned the printer off and back on. I have had a LOT of HPs start printing jibberish, and turning them off and back on is the only thing to fix.
I know it sounds like an obvious thing to try, and I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence. But you'd be surprised how many people don't try that. They reinstall their driver, and reboot their computer, but never turn the printer off and back on.

HP C6180 will not print a PDF document, causes paper jam.

The problem is an incompatibility between Adobe Acrobat and HP Photosoft software... the solution is to stop using Adobe Acrobat software as your primary PDF reader... to see why and what is the alternative continue reading...

I had several Windows XP laptop/netbook/desktops running on my home wireless network perfectly. Then I had to replace the desktop with Windows Vista, and that's where the problems started. Despite updating the HP driver software, the Photosmart printer would not work with the Vista machine unless it was physically connected through the USB port. But this solution created a new problem with the wireless XP machines, they would now cause a print jam every time I printed a PDF. I had Acrobat Reader on one machine and Acrobat Pro on the other. Any other file format would print fine... I could print a PDF from within Adobe Photoshop... and re-installing the old HP driver software eliminated the problem (but then the Vista machine wouldn't print anything)... thus the problem had to be Acrobat.

With the newest updated HP software in place I uninstalled Acrobat Reader and installed a freeware readers. THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. I tested three and all printed PDFs to the HP Photosmart printer with no problem. I tried Adobe Acrobat again, and it jammed. These freeware PDF readers are all small and fast compared to Acrobat which is big, bloated, and slow.

My suggestion is to use Foxit, which is the easiest and fastest, and seemes to work as a plugin with all the browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome). You can get it from trusted sites like CNET ( http://download.cnet.com/Foxit-Reader/3000-10743_4-10313206.html ) or from the company ( http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/ ).

BTW, I do maintain Acrobat Pro on one machine because of the advanced features I use, but I configured it to not be the default PDF reader and print through Foxit on my home network.

By the way, ANYONE WHO SUGGESTS CONTACTING HP SUPPORT ABOUT PRINTERS THIS OLD IS BEING LAZY OR NOT PAYING ATTENTION... HP WON'T HELP UNLESS YOU PAY FOR THE INCIDENT, AND THEN THEY TELL YOU TO DO THE OBVIOUS (i.e., install new drivers) WHICH DOESN'T WORK, WHEREUPON THEY WILL SAY IT'S NOT AN HP PROBLEM BUT THE "OTHER GUYS" PROBLEM. Many people have played this game with HP before so don't waste your time and money expecting a different result.

Dell dimension 3000 won't see wireless network

Hi, I've jst been looking on the web at the Mimo routers, you may find this article interesting, it may help even though its a couple of years old?

http://www.behardware.com/articles/614-2/wi-fi-mimo.html

Pay attention to part about 802.11n compatibility?
Perhaps try changing the IEEE standard on the router to 802.11g in the set up pages, as it may be set at 802.11n, which your older wireless card will not see.

As to the acquiring ip address message, try using a static ip address, here's a good guide:-

Maybe this will help?
