You need to get the bulb replaced. On the left hand side is where you can remove it. Buy a better bulb with the full cage or you will be spending time trying to soder it back in the cage. Bulbs are generally around 100.

Screen suddenly turned off, makes an odd high pitched noise when it tries to turn back on. power button flashes orange

Sounds like there is a power problem if the neutral (return) wire on the power supply has become high impedance (or even disconnected) then you will get a high pitched sound coming from the TV PSU also the voltage that is presented will not be 240V which will give you the same problem.

The orange power button means standby if you fix the PSU then the TV might work again but it may have been damaged by the PSU.

How to reset lamp meter

I have a PT-50LCX63 unit. After 5 years and 4 bulbs, a "reset lamp" warning showed up every time I turned on the tv. I have to say that after a few weeks, the message ceased on its own. I don't know if all models eventually reset or turn off, but I could not find any other information on the direct way of resetting. I find the warning a waste of time since the bulbs are good for 10 -14 months. Sadly I missed the class action suit that dealt with the premature lamp failures. I am looking for a new tv at this point. Bulbs have cost me $1200.00 since I bought it. The warning is supposed to allow you the option of replacing the lamp before it fails, Ha! what a joke...Thanks for reading.

Panasonic PT-50LCX63 it's not the bulb this time.

I've worked on similar units. If the bulb is good then the ballast that powers the lamp has failed. The ballast is available but around 300-400 US

Troubleshooting

We had the same problem and found out that we had to replace the Lamp Bulb. The problem is they try to sell you a whole new compartment house with the bulb, but all you need to buy is the bulb (with wires) itself. It will save you a ton.
