Restore files from back-up

I recently due to spyware in my computer used the system recovery to make my computer as it was when purchased it. It put all my extra programs in a back-up file folder. Problem is I don't know how to get it out and make the programs work again. Please help, my printer won't even work so my grandchildren can do reports for school.

It is a Cannon IP1700 and I can locate the files for all the programs, but there's nothing for me to click on to restore them. I really appreciate this help, thank-you sooo much

Grandma..you'll need some TLC to make this work. I recommend you recruit some direct services from one of the experts here, by looking in the repair directory for online support..

Trying to restore emachine to factory settings.. When I go to emachines recovcery management, I get something saying "Empowering Technology is not ready. try again Later"

This is usually a sign that the partition on your hard drive that the recovery media is located in is corrupt. 3 reasons for this:
  1. bad recovery partition from the factory (bad image)
  2. Virus or spyware corrupted files to prevent usage which would prevent you from removing the problem with a recovery.
  3. Hard Drive issues (physical sections of the drive going bad.)
If you created recovery media, use those to recover your system. If you didn't, you may have to purchase recovery media from gateway for your model to recover the computer.

While it may cost you $30 to $50 dollars for the recovery media, it is a lot cheaper than the alternative of getting a tech to try to repair the partition or track down the virus or spyware.

The other advantage of recovery media is if the problems you were experiencing are hard drive related, you can put a replacement drive in and use those recovery disks to get your system working again.

How do i format my laptop sony ns-series completely because it got spyware virus in it and i want to format it completely. thanks

Hi,

The computer is supplied with a recovery partition in the hard drive. You can use the same to restore the computer back to factory settings. Please restart the computer and then press and hold F10 key to access the recovery partition. Once you access the same, please select "Restore C Drive" to perform a System Recovery.

As you have mentioned that the computer is infected by virus, there is a possibility that System Recover using the above method may not eradicate all the virus. In that situation a "Complete System Recovery" will be required. To perform a Complete System Recovery, you need the recovery discs. If you have created the recovery discs before, then you can use the same to perform a complete system recovery.

Else you can purchase the recovery discs from the below link:

https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/shoppingCart.do?operation=addToCart&itemId=679907&searchOperation=partSearch&searchText=Y8318687A

It is required to purchase the recovery discs only if the first step didn't resolve the issue. I'm providing the second options as additional information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!!!!

I have Lenovo laptop y410 & When i open mt laptop then showing c/wins/system32/wtsapi32 there is some problem ...and i couldn't access normally if u suggest something for me that will be good!!!!!!

Hi Adhikary_pin,

If you can't run the system normally and produces error c/wins/system32/wtsapi32 it is due to corrupted operating system file. There are several ways on how to to resolve this issue, either you restore the computer using Windows system restore or put back the default factory setting on it. Here are some steps on how to use the Windows system restore.

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Reboot the computer then start tapping the F8 key.

3. Now once you're in the"Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu" select the "Safemode Option".

4. Computer will then begin to start in safemode.

5. Now click [Start] point to [All programs] go to [Accessories Folder] then [System tools] and click "System Restore".

6. On the "Welcome system restore" page, click the "Restore my computer to an earlier time" option then click next.

7. On the "Select a Restore Point page", click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.
--> A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.

8. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next and it will restarts the computer.

--> if after these process and you're still encountering the same issue, I recommend to perform One Key Recovery to bring back the factory setting of the computer.

For the One Key Recovery procedure, kindly visit my link below. You will find helpful tips and guidelines on it.

Gateway laptop reset

Gateway Direct systems went "media-less" back in September 2004. In the event of a system crash users could either 1) restore their systems from the Recovery Partition OR 2) from the backup media that they were prompted to create on first power-up -- which would provide them with up to 5 blank CD-R discs depending on their system's configuration.

On the factory load of the hard drive, the recovery partition will not contain operating system files. It only contains application and driver files.
The first time the recovery partition is used, it prompts the user to insert their System Recovery CD/DVD to copy files from the CD to the recovery partition.
The Drivers and Applications CD is not bootable and does not contain Operating System files.
The System Recovery CD/DVD is bootable but does not contain any application or driver files.
If the end-user erases the hard drive and restores the computer using the System Recovery CD/DVD and an Applications and Drivers CD, the recovery partition is not recreated.

This means that you will need the operating system restore disc FIRST then the recovery partition will work for you

Windows message always appears when computer starts up this is the Message (rtutils.dll is missing therefore windows needs to close)

To get rid of the rtutils.dll you can try the steps given below.

Turn on the system in safe mode by pressing F8 as soon as you turn on your system

Check the recycle bin to see you hav accidentally deleted the file. If so restore the file from the recycle bin.

If you have cleared the recycle bin then the best option would be to use a file recovery option. A software called Recuva is available. It is a file recovery software.

Sometimes the file could have been corrupted bya spyware/virus/malware. In this case run the anti-virus and anti spyware. This can help you detect the malware and restore the file back to normality.

else try to do a system restore
XP->
Start-> Programs-> Accesories->System tools-> System restore

Vista->
Click on windows (left side bottom) -> Type (System restore) in start program bar-> and click on the same.

If you are facing the problem after a software installation then try to uninstall the software and check for the error.

Try to clean up the registry

Try to update the drivers.

and if all of these don't work then try to download the dll file from the internet.

Windows vista wont load

Hi I believe that wouldn't be a problem. If you want to do a system recovery, the laptop usually comes with a back up partition where all the files to do system recovery is stored. You can use these files to restore the setting back to the point when you first purchased the item.

REMEMBER: All your datas will be erased when you do the System Recovery.
For me guide you on have to access the files, I need the make and model of your laptop.

NOTE: If the RECOVERY or FACTORY_IMAGE partitions on the hard drive have been deleted OR the files in these partitions have been deleted, these steps will not work. You must use recovery discs.

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.
  3. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly , about once every second, until Recovery Manager opens.
  4. Click Next .
A Microsoft System Restore screen opens.
  5. Select No, I would like to see other options , and then click Next .
    A System recovery screen opens.
  6. Click Yes , and Next to continue the recovery process.
The Recovery Manager gives you the option of backing up your data files. To do so, read Backing up your files .
  7. To continue recovery, select No , and then click Next .
A recovery progress screen opens. Wait while files are restored.
  8. When System Recovery is complete, click Finish
  9. The computer restarts and continues into Windows setup.
  10. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
  11. Turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on the computer.
  12. Before using the computer, update and protect it by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the System Recovery.
  13. Reinstall any software applications that were added after purchasing the computer, and replace any files that were backed up.
Please rate this solution.

Computer wont download files, wont let AVG upload new files, redirects me to sites I am not looking for will not let me restore, defrag, play dvds or games. I think i've been high jacked! HELP!!!!

Sounds like you have a MAJOR spyware and or virus infestation. You can try using Spybot to clean the spyware, but usually when it's bad as you're explaining, your best bet is to backup your files to an external or flash drive and wipe the computer, reinstalling a clean copy of Windows (or system restore / system recovery, depending on what software came with the computer).

Remember, even if you get rid of all the spyware, which is doubtful at this point - you still don't undo the damage that the spyware has done, so you may not be any better off after cleaning.

Hope this helps - good luck and remember to rate!

HP PAVILION PREVIOUS QUESTION

there are two types of recovery....one is to reformat the hard drive..which puts the computer back to where it was when it was first purchased...and the other will just recover all operating files..leaving all of your personal files in place. If you have the option of going to a restore point, try that first. If you have critical files on your hard drive, you could purchase another hard drive and install Windows on it and put old hard drive in computer and use it as a slave and retrieve all critical files that way as it seems that the operating system is corrupted at this point.
