Acer Aspire 5050 - Unable To Boot PLEASE HELP.

Turned On My Laptop Today And There Were No Sounds To Indicate It Was Booting Up, Just The Screen Performing A Disk Check. [As Apparently My Laptop Had Not Been Shut Down Properly - It Had. I Always Shut It Down.]

After About 5 Minutes, the Percentage Hadn't Moved From 0% And It Then Showed A Blue Screen With Vertical Lines Running down The Centre Of The Screen.

What Is This? I've Scanned Every Piece Of Literature On My Laptop I Have, And Have been Given No Answer. It's My Lifeline At The Moment As I Am In The Middle Of Exams For My Degree.
Any Help At All Would Be Much Appreciated As I Have No Idea What's Going On!!

There is a very hig possibility that your Hard Drive developed somebad sectors. What I suggest is try to remove the hard drive and use it as an external drive using a 2nd PC and back up all your imporatnt files immediately. After making sure that all needed data has been extracted, try to reformat the Hard drive and if it is still functional, re-install your OS.

Most of this cases, I highly recommend that you replace your hard drive with a new one.

Sounds like the HAL.DLL problem that I have with my Aspire One.
Try booting off a genuine Windows XP disc and choosing the 'recovery console' option. At the command line, type 'CHKDSK C:' and press Enter. If you're lucky, that will do the trick.

My computer will not boot up Acer 5050 all the lights com on but it never boots the screen stays black. it will not turn off unless you remove the battery.

If you have a VGA cable and a monitor, attempt to plug this into a monitor to verify that the laptop will not boot into your OS (Windows generally). If it does end up booting into your OS, then it sounds like your LCD has died or become unplugged inside the laptop.

Blue Screen of Death

You'll need to setup the Acer laptop to boot from CD-ROM. Push either the F2 or F10 button when booting your laptop and it should bring-up the configuration management interface. Go through the options and confirm that Boot From CD-ROM is at the top of the list on bootable devices.

Next, you'll need your original Windows XP CD that came with the Laptop. Put it in the CD-ROM Drive and reboot your laptop. You will be given two options: 1) Re-install Windows or 2) Repair the existing Windows Installation. I recommend that you repair the existing Windows Installation as this will not destroy and data or device drivers that are install on the laptop.

Good Luck!

Acer aspire 5100 - screen is turned off, cant turn it back on

The bios beep codes indicate the video card is not working, so you won't see anything on the screen.

Your video card is either dead, or is not contacting the board correctly.
If you are keen to open it up I will offer instructions to assist you. But in reality, your safest bet is to take it to a laptop shop and get them to do it. There are a lot of tiny screws in these things.
