My Brother pc-420 (Project Runway) machine is only one year old. A few weeks ago, it developed a loud knocking sound while stitching at medium to high speeds. I did the maintenance cleaning recommended in the manual (removing the bobbin and cleaning out the lint). I have followed all manual directions for use as well, so I don't think that the problem is due to misuse. Anyway, I took my machine to a local Bernina sewing center that is licensed to service Brother. They did routine maintenance and checked for the problem I described--and thought they had solved the problem. I tried out the machine at home. Now the noise is worse and even present at low stitching speeds! All the stitches are even, and the thread is not catching or getting tangled, so I don't think the tension is a problem. Any ideas? It sounds like the machine is about to come apart "at the seams"--literally and figuratively!!!!

I would call Brother at 1-800-276-8437 and complain that you took it in to their authorized service center and the problem is even worse. I would try for a new machine or them to send you a call tag to fix it themselves. A machine only a year old should not have that kind of problem. Be assertive and not afraid to speak up. You deserve better service.

My granddaughter received a Brother Project Runway Model LS2300 PRW machine for Christmas 6 years ago. It has never been out of the box until today. The takeup lever does not move when the handwheel is...

I suspect the bobbin winder did not return to full left (off) position.

Try moving bobbin winder all the way to the right and then all the way back to the left.

Brother PC-420 sewing machine wont switch on at all.

Take off the slide plate and reseat the bobbin case. Can you turn the handwheel by hand now? If not, you may have a thread jam that seized the machine causing the security device to activate to prevent further damage. This doesn't seem like a situation that would fry a board, but if it moves freely, but still won't turn on; take it to a technician or return it.

My Brother Project Runway PC 420 will not automatically form any stitch that requires switching to reverse. It will only reverse when I press the reverse button. All help will be appreciated!

Brother is one company that I've had excellent experience with. Their service has always been top notch and they stand behind their products. I would ask them if they can help. Depending on the age of the machine, may have to take it for servicing, but try them first.

They are great on the phone and answer email promptly. I've never had anything but great experiences with them, for anything I own made by Brother.

My cutter doesnt work

Remove the plastic needle plate cover by sliding it towards you and clean all of the lint out with your provided brush. Small amounts of lint, fabric, and thread accumulate over time in there causing it to stop cutting...happened to me already. You should be cleaning this on a regular basis to keep feed dogs running good too. Hope this helps. =)
