Not the charger. It is either the battery or the charge circuit in the laptop. Most are on the mother boards but some have a changable dc to dc inverter board

Acer aspire 5100 when a laptop does not start with power plug on and no battery what could be the issue

Do you have a voltmeter? The first thing I would check is to see if you are getting 19VDC coming out of the charger. The on then off when you have the battery in sounds like your battery is almost out of juice and the fact that nothing happens when you plug it in without the battery indicates to me that your power adapter is not working.

Acer aspire will not turn on or charge

Hello bperez28,

There are 3 possible reasons for that problem.

1. Battery is dead or is not seated properly. Try removing the battery from your laptop and then replace it back. If the battery is dead, it will not charge anymore. If it is still under warranty, ask for a replacement.

2. Charger is malfunctioning. Try to plug it into a different know working plug outlet. You might need to replace the charger with a new one.

3. Motherboard issue. Needs servicing.

You need trial and error to know exactly which of those is the reason why your Laptop is malfunctioning. Try a different charger/battery BEFORE buying one.

My Acer Aspire 5100 laptop makes a loud high pitched consistent noise when I try to turn it on. then the noise stops, then a black screen comes up with writing, but when i hit resume, the computer restarts...

The problem might be the power supply charger that plugs into the laptop, unplug the charger and run the laptop on battery power, is the high pitch sound there when you power up? if this solves the problem, it is the power supply charger that is the cause.

Laptop is not getting charged

you need to buy new motherboard, it is a hardware problem
if you still on the warranty, take advantage of that because i believe they going to replace the parts for free

My acaer aspire laptop keeps switching itself off

If the computer turns off instantly after the power is pressed, either you are not plugged into the charger and the battery is empty, or there is a hardware fault that is preventing it from starting up properly.

if you are plugged into the charger and the battery has power as well, then try unplugging the power and take out the battery for 5 minutes, plug both back in and try to turn it on. if the same problem repeats then it is most likely a hardware issue.

If you are in warranty contact acer or your dealer, you will have to send / ship the laptop to acer warranty repair, more details from acer or your dealer.

If you are outside of warranty, take the laptop to a local professional for a diagnosis and a repair estimate.

Hi, please help me regarding on my problem in my acer aspire 5710.. While I was using it I heard a beep tone that it was low on power and save my documents, things i have been doing after a while after I...

Does this happen a lot that you let it die when it has low power? This can damage the computers internal software for such operations, it is meant to be turned off through the off button under start etc. Try keeping it off of power, meaning take out the battery and the plug and leave it sitting for a cuple hours this should reset the system, it might help. Other than that I do not know, go to a local computer fixer persoN! !!

Acer aspire 5100 won't stay on when booting on battery

replace the battery. Batteries usually only last about two years and it sounds like it just cant hold any more juice. To find a battery go to google.com and type in the model of computer and push search. Sorry for the news but its an easy fix

Acer Aspire 5100 Red Battery Light

The Aspires should have no issue booting without the battery installed. Have you done a static reset? (i.e. hold the power switch for 20/30 seconds without power or battery in) And the voltage range on the Aspire 5100 should be +19v - +20.5v on the inner part of the connector so it might be worth checking that the power adapter is outputing correctly.
If it works without battery, then it can be checked by testing the voltage between pins 1 and 6 on the battery (the ones either end) and should be 7.5v or above if the battery is charging correctly.
Hope that gives you a starting point, if you've done all those things already then appologies and best of luck with it.
