Breaker keeps tripping on outside air conditioner unit

The compressor is probably drawing to many amps. Breaker could be weak also.. Need to check the amp draw on the compressor.

If the breaker is hot when it blows, the compressor is probably going bad.

Keeps blowing the breaker... only 6 months old

This compressor is small however like other brands in this size range draw 13 - 15 amps. Thats quite a bit of power. The compressor has a thermal breaker that will begin to trip if compressor is hot. I am assuming that the breaker that is tripping is the one on the compessor. I have seen many hitachi breakers fail. Easy to replace with generic 20 amp, cost about $10. Before you replace anything, check amp draw with meter, if within specs try to determine what is causing heat.
example:
cycling too many times per hour (check manual for recommended)
low power due to weak circuit or extension cord
using generator for powering compressor (not recommended)
using low quality oil (use synthetic if hot climate)
air leaking from intank checkvalve back to pump
If no reason to overheat then replace breaker on compressor to 20 amp but watch for overheating. Good luck

The air conditioner was working today i have a RUUD UAKA018JAZ, the fan is running however it is not blowing cold air out the vents

Hi, your problem is in the unit outside. Check to see if the fan is on, make sure the compressor is running also. If nothing is on, check the breaker to see if it tripped. Also, the box at the unit has 2- fuses inside behind the plastic cover you can't see unless you remove it. If the unit is off and the breaker was ok, remove the cover and replace BOTH fuses. Do all of this and let me know. If the breaker keeps tripping or blowing fuses if the unit was off, you have a componant shorted. It may be off or on and not cooling well due to a loss of freon. If it is on, hold your hand above the fan to feel the air. It should be nice and warm almost hot if its hot outside. Let me know what you find please. We can find the problem.
Sincerely,

I can't seem to get the A/C to work. I'm thinking of getting a hose as a last resort. It seems to alternate blowing cool air, then hot air after a few minutes. There's also a tendency for the a/c to...

The symtoms you describe appear to indicate that the AC might be low on the freon charge. Usually blowing cold and then hot is the first sign that the unit is low on refridgerant and is working hard to keep cooling.

Further, the tripping of the breakers/electric power also indicates that the unit is working hard to cool and as a result is running hot and is causing the power to trip off. If you can get a AC tech to recharge the unit, you should be all set.

Here's a link to a site with the owners manual and a troubleshooting guide for your unit. You can access it for free.

Coleman airconditioner

Try testing the capacitor (there may be 2 ) If the start windings can't kick out it will blow the breaker.
