If you registered the laptop at any time with the manufacturer, then they would have the serial number on file, otherwise they couldn't care less.. You really should keep better records of your high-tech, high-dollar, easily-pilferable equipment because these things are more common than you know.
My my that is a terrible thing to happen, the only thing I can suggest is report it stolen give the serial and information to the police more than likely I hate to say this you may have to write this laptop off and purchase another one. Tracking them is difficult once they are out of your possession. Regardless if you had the MAC address even. If you report it stolen if the police find stolen items they can track a recovery by identifying its serial number. So doing a report would and possibly beat a blank and who knows you may be surprised one day when you get a call is this your laptop? I hope this happens for you but it will not if you do not report it and register it with the police as stolen. Sorry for your loss really.......John
Unfortunately there is no means of tracking the stolen GPS. If you have a record of the serial number, you could report it to the police. The GPS may show up at a local pawn shop and if the police have the serial number on file, they could possibly recover it for you.
If you have already registered your laptop, I'd suggest calling the 1-800 number and providing them with your original purchase information, proving you were the original owner and then ask your question of them. Sometimes, stolen laptop which are in warranty are then taken back into the manufacturer in order to try and obtain a refurbished replacement, and this is a good way to track it.
I know this isn't an elegant solution, and hope you find your laptop soon.
Unfortunately, unless you installed tracking software/hardware, there is no way to track it. The best thing you can do is to report it stolen (with serial number) to Compaq and local authorities.
Stolen laptop can only be recovered if you have MAC address of laptop. IP adress are temporary and can be changed or altered,
its not worthy to find IP instead try to get MAC adress.
If you have registerd your laptop with its Manufacturing Site like Lg, DELL etc then you can contact them and probably by providing them serial no. you can get MAC address. Every machine ha different MAC address and I am sure with your serial no. you can get this information from your dealer or manufacturer.
GOOD LUCK
If you have the MAC address you might be able to track it down if its ever used.
Also try contacting your manufacturer if you have any documentation or serial numbers of your laptop. Your manufacturer or retail store might have a service, or can track whether someone else re-registers it,
Besides that all you can really do is hope.
When an item is stolen many times its hard to track down because of the surplus amount of stolen items.
The MAC address i think is ur best bet, but you'd have to dig around and its not going to be worth it, because the mac address is officially embeded on your laptops hardware, Most thieves are not smart enough to realize that.
Computers can not be tracked what-so-ever unles steps have been taken to do so beforehand. The only way you could tell if it was possibly being used is if you had a instant messenger program that starts when the computer starts.
When the computer connects to the internet the instant messenger would show you as online. You could then possibly get the ip of your stolen computer and then try to locate it through help from your isp and a lawyer.
However stolen computer vanish faster then stolen cash. Hard drives are wiped and serial numbers are taken off.
If this was a business laptop or if you had insurance on it, report it and fill out a report where it was stolen.
