This can be fixed by Opening the profile settings of your mobileand you can see the call settings and change the message settings and change melody to mute.

The msg alert tone depends on the current sound profile of your phone (like normal, silent, driving etc).
1. Go to main menu -> settings -> phone profiles. You should find all the profiles available in the phone. For example, we will change the msg alert tone for 'normal'.
2. Tap on the box with the double arrow (>>) symbol next to normal. You should enter a screen saying call alert type, voice call ringtone etc.
3. There is a drop down menu at the top right side of the screen. Tap that and select 'new messages'.
4. 'message alert type' should be melody or vibration & melody, depending on your preference.
5. now select 'message alert tone'. The phone has a number of tones already stored. Select one of these.
6. Or select 'sounds' at bottom right and browse to any file you want to set as message alert tone instead..
7. Save and exit !!

go 2 settings...opn phone profiles >> click tis mark....
d top rit side ull find a tangle shoving dwn sign...click it...dan click on nw msgs....ull find msg alert tone der...opn it...at d rit bottom ull find "sounds"...opn it..choose t tone n save it....
try these steps.. 1. press menu 2. select settings 3. select phone profiles 4. under phone profiles, select the options either normal, silent, it's up to you and press the double arrow >> 5. beside normal profiles, you will see a drop down box, press it and it will give you the list of options which are incoming call, new messages, phone sounds.. 6. select new messages 7. scroll down and select message alert tone 8. press the box for your message alert tone, to browse your files from your phone or from your memory card and select your favorite mp3 tones press sounds and press the arrow on the top bar (arrow pointing to the top, means up to one level or go back to folder). 9. select the folder where you stored your tones and select the tones and press save. 10.once saved, it will return to profile menu, press save again, or if you still want to configure it up to, after configuration press save and exit the setup. 11. now try to send a test message to your own phone number by then you will hear your message tone.
For the Samsung corby pro, go to settings from the main menu. open the phone profiles, select the normal profile, then access the uppermost drop down box (which should say incoming call by default) select the new messages option, scroll down to the message alert tone and viola. you can choose from the default tones or even or even upload one of your own by clicking the sound button.

when you go to your tones folder select the mp3 you want to make the msg tone and select it then an option should direct you to add as ringtone or msg alert
