If the display is changing by itself despite your pressing the turntable pad, i would say the turntable pad is failing on the keypad.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

Then if it still fails, you may have a failing keypad.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Control locked GE microwave model JVM7195EK1ES

Looks like someone turned the Child Lock feature on - this is a safety feature...For most models, here are the steps to turn on and off the child lock feature:

To lock or unlock the control (varies by model):
  • Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for 3 seconds. The display will show "LOCK" and then revert to the time of day.
    • A small "L" may appear in the corner of the display as a reminder that the control panel is locked.
    • If anyone tries to use the microwave, the display will show "LOCK".
  • Press and hold the 5 and 7 pads simultaneously for 3 seconds.
  • Press the Mute pad for 3 seconds.

Hope that works for you...If not, please call GR Customer Support at 1-800-432-2737

Magic chef microwave runs backwards with door closed and no time set - works normally when time is set and door is closed - any ideas?

Probably a bad door switch or door switch mount. See help file here.

It's normal for a microwave turntable to run either direction at random. That's common in such AC motors.

I have a GE Spacemaker XL 1800. The problem is that the turntable doesn't turn anymore. I've tried to turn the "turntable" feature off and then on again, but it still won't turn. I hear the sound it...

If the oven is still heating, but the carousel isn't turning, this problem is commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and may need to be replaced. The motor is attached to the center plastic piece (called a turntable shaft, turntable ring or coupler) under the middle of the glass tray. The following link explains how to access and replace the motor:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price range will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifying the part(s) you may need.

The average price for a motor is about $35 to $45. If your model number is not listed at all the sites, use the part numbers from the Sears site and use them for your search criteria. The model numbers don't always cross reference, but the part numbers do. If you need assistance identifying the correct part number, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and I can assist you. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Even though the carousel may not be turning, you can still use the microwave while awaiting parts. You will need to physically rotate whatever you are heating about midway through the cook time to ensure even heating. Early model microwave ovens were not equipped with a rotating carousel and this was the common routine.

My turntable stopped running

If you didn't buy the turntable motor then I assume you purchased the coupler ( white plastic/nylon piece that fits into the turntable motor collar and rotates the platen? Is that what you purchased?

Russell hobbs microwave turntable wont turn

Is there an option via the Help or Custom Help to turn the turntable off and off?

This feature is common in over the range models.

Otherwise, it may be a bad motor.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPSWi_z7M58

If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven, as you're looking up from the stove top.

Please write back with your model number if you need further help.

You may have a problem with the keypad or the control unit (circuit board / smart board).

We repair these on a regular basis. Details and *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info is at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
