Hi there, I have a broadband connection with Virgin Media and I brought a Netgear Wireless G - Router WGR614 v9 which is connected up and works fine - or at least my iphone connects to it ok. I have since brought a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook and I just can not connect wireless internet to the netbook. The netbook instead keeps connecting me to a BTOpenzone connect which one of the neighbours must have, although even the BTOpenzone comes up low signal and even that doesn?t give me any internet. connection. Also I tried login into my router login page so I can add a device using the MAC address like I had to do for my iPhone but I keep getting an error message MAC address invalid. Pretty please any advise is much appreciated. Thankyou for any help in advance

    Router issue Netgear:
yes, there should be a set up wizard in the router to help you configure the security.
Logging into the router is either 192.168.01. or 192.168.1.1
You can check your manual to show you the exact step for your wireless setup
The manual is on the cd that came with the Netgear or you caan visit the site of the manufacturer for step by step instruct for you model router.

Want to get more speed out o my fiberoptic broadand

Well the best router for your connection type would be WNR2000. Even Virgin media recommend this router for their 20 and 50 Meg connection. I am pretty confident that this router will meet your requirement with this ISP connection.

Hope this helps.

Do you have encryption enabled on your router? If so you will need to enter the encryption key of the passphrase in the network setup of the xbox 360

Need network key for NETGEAR (virgin) to connect

for that you have to access your router.
connect your router to computer with ehternet cable.
then access it with following link.
http://192.168.1.1
or http://192.168.0.1
type user as 'admin' and password as "admin" or blank or 'password'

then go to wireless security then you find WEP or WAP key there but it is in * or # format so you can't know it.
So you have to set new key so you can easily know it.
Then set new network key then save and restart the router then you can connect it with new key.

Laptop finding router but no internet connection

If you can connect directly to your virgin Media Broadband and get internet then your laptop and broadband router is fine.

The wireless router appears not to have a DNS entry and you will need to add that manually.

I suggest that you connect directly to the Broadband modem, be sure you can get onto the internet. Once you have confirmed you can get onto the internet you need to get the dns information from your Broadband modem for later.

once connected directly to the broadband modem, click start>run> then type "CMD" then click open. you will get a prompt type the following and record the DNS Server ip addresses.

"ipconfig /all" then hit enter
this will display your ipaddress information but mostly you need the DNS server ip addresses.

once you have recorded them rerun the install, but this time instead of at the end of the install where it shows the Wireless router information you can modify or change it and add the DNS server entries.

Also by default most wireless routers ip address is 192.168.1.1 and you can type that from a internet explorer and change it from there as well. I believe it's no ID or user name and the password is admin.

Good luck

Cannot finish connecting

Hi fozzy211 - Please don't rate this 'til were finished. You've got two things going on. You said it's telling you to check the cables and then you say it's saying the router isn't from Verizon. Is it both? Are the cables hooked up correctly to your knowledge? We can fool Verizon's system. Let me know if you actually have two problems. For now I would only hook up one pc via wired until it's working. I'll await your response. Thanks.
