Get a new charger. They are pretty cheap. They are notorious for burning out. If that doesn't fix it then the motherboard is bad. But I'd assume the burned out charger.
guess the problem is with your laptop battery....chargers normaly dont crack soon.....
charging the battery....is not OK
to sort out the issue
do this...
1 remove the battery from the battery bay....(hope u know how to do that)
2 now connect the adaptor and check if the notebook works....(without the battery in the bay)
3 now remove the adpator and install the battery...check if it now works with just the battery....
4 now connect the adpator to notrbook with the battery in it's bay...start the notebook.....and let it work for some 3 - 5 hrs
5 remove the adaptor...check if the battery immediatly takes over...if not then battery is the issue
The charger has a adpator that plugs into the batteyr to allow charging, now if you lost that connection then I can see where its inpossiable and thus you would need to geto ne from the manufacture. But it only goes in one way so let me know.

Hello,
GUys! I FOUND THE PROBLEM! . i have a HP pavilion dv1000 windows XP
I think the cause could have been many things. I solve the issue by
using a different baterry charger/adpator. I have 2 exact notebooks, so
i tend to switch their chargers, maybe taht was the problem, also i was
in south america, where the voltage is diff 220v. I believe the charger
with the problem was ruined during my trip? Who knows. But it work for
me. The other sugestions here didnt work
If you take out your battery, plug it in, then turn your laptop on it should still run. If it does run then your battery is bad. If it does not run then it is either your DC jack or charger.
