Hello,
I have a Panasonic DMR EZ48V DVD recorder/ VCR combo machine and digital cable which needs to be run through the box. (If you run the cable without the box, then you get significantly fewer channels and it is not digital service.)
If the hookup goes: wall - DVD - cable box - TV, and program the DVD player to set channels, then I get channels on the DVD player, but they are not my regular cable channels and the quality reminds me of rabbit ear TVs of my youth.
If the hookup goes: wall - cable box - DVD - TV, and I program it to set channels, then I get my PBS station (normally channel 13) on channel 3, 8 and 14 and absolutely nothing else.
I cannot program anything to record because I cannot get the DVD player to actually acknowledge any stations other than 3 (which plays channel 13 - PBS) and 8 & 14 (which are fuzzy versions of PBS). I can record whatever I have on the TV live, and I can program it to record whatever channel the cable box is set to, but I cannot program it to record a specific cable channel because only the above three versions of PBS "exist" according to the DVD player. I've tried programming both from "antenna" and "cable" on the set channels automatically menu.
Of course, I can bypass the entire machine with the TV/Audio button and still watch the cable that I pay for, but I cannot record it unless I leave the cable box on a particular channel or am watching what I record.
Any ideas on how to get the DVD player to actually download the cable stations?
Many thanks in advance.
Connect the RF lead from the wall to your cable box then out from that to your dvd then out from your dvd to your tv. now connect a scart lead from the cable box to AV 2 on the DVD then connect AV 1 on the DVD to your TV if you have a second scart on your tv connect that to the cable box. NOW on the DVD select AV2 now whatever is on the cable box will be recorded onto DVD/VCR. Put the DVD recorder into VCR mode and set it to auto tune all the Digital Video Broadcasts. You cannot physically tune the cable boxes own channels into the DVD via RF it has to be via a scart.

I had a similar problem with my DMR-EZ48V. I finally split the incoming cable coax to go to each device. Then used the Audio/Video (red/white/yellow) cables between the devices. This allowed me to get everything and record everything. It took a bit of playing to get it all right but it worked.
