There is a short somewhere within the DS. At this point, your going to have to get a new one or send it in for repair. here is the direct repair and troubleshooting line for nintendo 800-255-3700 hope i've helped in some way :)
Look on the well known auction sites. Some are selling the switch. Ask them if they could also replace it for you. I could do it for you but I'm in Europe, so a little to far
L2 inductor comes out sometimes when dropped and the DS keeps in fixed amber light when charger is plugged in. But you found it fast so good luck. Its pretty sure your DS will work again after soldering the L2 again in its place near the power switch. Just get the battery and charger out before doing anything to avoid a blown fuse also.
