The firing order for a Dodge 318cid/5.2L is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 clockwise rotation.
Cylinders are numbered like this.
Pass side 2-4-6-8 front to rear.
Driver side 1-3-5-7 front to rear.
The firing order is probably forged into the intake manifold. Number one tower on the distributor cap is the one facing the number one plug or the driver-side headlight.
Distributor rotor at Number 1 plug terminal points to front intake bolt on left side of engine.
Here is a firing order diagram for your "Jetfire Rocket" engine, and you will not find this diagram out there because I just made it to help assist you using the Windows "Paint" program and a firing order diagram from an ancient 1964-1971 Chilton Manual.
You are going to have to line the rotor button up with number one plug wire, remove cap,and bump engine over close to tdc on the crank pulley,,now this needs to be on intake stroke, removing number one spark plug, and putting your thumb over the spark plug hole on number one cylinder will tell you, when it sucks your thumb, then it is number one intake stroke, then ,make sure the tdc is dead on O and look at where the rotor button is pointing, this will be number one on the distributor cap,I hope this was helpful,if so,please let us know, thank you.
Normally the firing order will be stamped on the top of the intake manifold also the number one plug will be the front one on the drivers side of the car. On the top of the distributor cap you should see a number one that is where the number one plug wire goes follow the firing order on the manifold and go clock wise on the distributor cap
