  • Anonymous Feb 13, 2009

i have a 1998 cherokee sport and this week all my windows wont work. The led's are all not lit. Today they lit up when i started the car and it let me drop the window about 2 inches and then the led's went out and I cant get the window back up. The led is lit on the front passenger side window but it wont let me operate that window either. The power locks only work with the key control.

is the solution from crose2573 for a jeep cherokee or another vehicle or related to all?

    Check two things first:
    1. Does the power door still work? If not, the circuit breaker under the dash is likely blown.
    2. Do the windows other than the driver side operate under the individual control? There is a power cord between the driver door and compartment at the hinge that sometimes gets torn or loose.

Under the dash next to the steering columb there is a control module for the power windows. this has a series of relays inside. Toggle the switch on one of the doors with the power on and you should hear a clicking noise coming from the box. If no noise, check relays and fuses under the hood near battery before replacing the control module.

If all windows do not work , (In my case) connector came loose behind the window switches, Pry open the switch cover ( driver side arm rest) check connector. , there are no screws to open. It is easy.

Alternatively, pull the rubber grommet between the driver door and fender of the car apart and see if any of the wires cracked. This can cause all 4 windows to fail, and was the problem on my Aurora.

Both rear power windows go up slowly,4-5 switch hits before they completely up

Sounds like your rear power window motors are worn and tired, try spraying silicone spray in the window channels, if that don't help replace both motors.

Sunroof will not work

Power is supplied to the Power windows and sunroof through the power window circuit breaker. That circuit breaker is supplied power through the RAP (retained accessory power) Relay, the RAP relay also supplies power to the radio. The RAP relay is also fuse protected by the RAP fuse in the under hood fuse block. The RAP relay is energized by the BCM body control module.

The RAP relay is responsible for the radio and windows working after the igntion is turned off.

The first place to check would be the RAP fuse in the under hood fuse block and then the RAP relay in the Body fuse block.

A list of the BODY relay block located on the left side of the dash to the right of the interior fuse block is below:

(1) Park Lamp Relay (2) Courtesy Lamp Relay (3) Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Relay (4) Power Seats Circuit Breaker (5) Power Windows Circuit Breaker (6) Inadvertent Power Relay (7) Door Lock Relay (8) Headlamp Ground Relay (9) Driver Door Unlock Relay (10) Door Unlock Relay(1) Park Lamp Relay

How do I fix the problem of all 4 power windows

See if you have power coming out of the master power window switch when a button is pushed down. Remove a door panel and check for power at the window motor with the switch pushed. If you do not have power it could be the master switch. Good luck.

Power Window Issue

I would say there is a fault with the wiring to the connection from the power to the windows, maybe loose wire or shortcircuit?
