Paper tray broke off printer

Printer tray problem - the small tray that sits on top of the paper tray (and catches printed documents - well one of the little knobs broke off. I took the paper tray assembly off to try and reglue the knob back on (no luck there) so now I'm trying to put the paper tray back into the printer. Can't figure out how to do it.

I'm looking for a detailed picture of the how the paper tray assembly fits into the printer - or other advice on how to put this back together.

Here is a link for the assembly of your printer. It's not really detailed but it's about as good as it gets. Basically you you just put the tray in a little at an angle and lower it down so it "locks" in place. I have an HP and if you first look at where it's being attadhed to and then look at the tray and picture I think you'll get it no problem. If this solves your problem please rate this as fixed. If not, don't rate at all. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be glad to help you further. Thanks.

How to print one document on mutiple trays

Once you have installed and setup a multi-tray printer you might like to try to print a document to different printer trays. Open a word document and create a two page document.
  • Select your new printer under file->Print (if it's not the default)
  • Click the page layout tab
  • Click the small triangle at the bottom right
  • Open the page setup dialog box and click the page Paper Tab
  • Choose a tray for the first page and other pages. Close the dialog box and print.

Document comes out crumpled

Paper is not feeding through your printer properly.

First thing you should do is to remove the paper from your paper tray. After removing, place the paper back in the tray, making sure it sits evenly within the tray. There should be no part of that is higher than any other.

Next, carefully close the paper tray, making sure that no part of the paper catches when closing. Do this by feel. If you feel any resistance when sliding the tray shut, pull the tray open and try again.

If this does not solve the problem, open the printer doors and take a look inside the printer. There might be something small impeding the paper's smooth movement through your printer.

Finally, take a few seconds to clean the paper pulls (the little rubber wheels you see inside your printer). If these are dirty, the paper will not be pulled through the printer in an even way. It could pull off track causing one of the sides of the paper to rub against the printer. This is what causes the crumpling. To clean the paper pulls, just use a damp cloth and gently wipe them. Good luck!

Paper feeds, but won't print. As far as I can tell there is ink.

Ensure the Paper Tray is Not Overfilled Each printer tray has a maximum capacity rating, and this rating is based on a specific paper weight and or thickness. Consequently, situations might arise in which the tray will not be able to accommodate the maximum number of sheets listed in the printer specifications. Verify that the paper is not packed too tightly in the paper tray Adjust the Printer Paper Guides Adjust the paper guides to fit the size paper being used (Figure 1). The guides should be close (1/16" or less) to the paper without touching, so that the paper stays properly aligned without continually rubbing the guides. Locate and Remove Any Obstructions Inside the Printer and Input Tray Open the front cover and make sure the kickstand (if there is one) is engaged. Locate and remove any obstructions within the printer, such as paper pieces, staples, tape, or other objects. Close the cover. Remove all paper from the input tray. Inspect the input tray for any obstructions. Remove any visible obstructions. Reinsert the paper. Determine if Multiple Sheets Are Fed at Once From the Paper Tray or ADF Determine if multiple sheets are fed at once from the the paper tray or Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Verify the print media installed is compatible with the printer Clean the ADF Paper Feed Roller Disconnect the AC power from the printer. Open the cover of the Automatic Document Feeder (Figure 1). Figure 1: Raise the Cover of the Automatic Document Feeder Using a damp paper towel, gently wipe the rubber roller to remove any ink or paper debris (Figure 2). Figure 2: Paper Feed Roller on the Automatic Document Feeder Close the cover and reconnect the power. Reseat the Dell Printer Power Adapter If your printer has a momentary loss of communication with your computer, it may be necessary to reset the printer to re-establish communication. You can reset a Dell? inkjet printer by unplugging the printer power cord from the electrical outlet and from the back of the printer for 10 seconds then reattaching the cord at both ends. If the printer queue icon is showing in your system tray (by your clock), you may have documents that are paused for printing. To resume printing a paused document: Double-click the printer queue icon to check document status of the active printer. Right-click on any documents that show Paused under Status, and then click Resume in the drop-down menu. Try a Different Type of Print Media Many image quality and paper feed issues are caused by the type of print media being used. Try a different type of print media that is specifically made for this printer. Replace the printer.

When I try to print photos from a memory stick it fails to print and tells me to load paper glossy side down even though there is enough paper properly loaded. When I take out the paper the top sheet has...

The problem is that the metal paper stop is not fully recessing into the guide at the rear of the printer and the photo paper is catching on the lip on top of the stop. Take the back cover off the printer and check that the guide has not moved out of position. Also try to twist the photo paper tray to the left or right so the stop lines up better with the guide recess. This worked for my printer tempoarily, but then things went out of allignment again, so I took a slightly more drastic step. With only a single sheet of photo paper in the tray, print another photo. When the photo tray slides back to deliver the paper to the rollers, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer to stop the tray from moving forward again. With a pair of needlenose pliers, bend the lip on top of the metal paper stop upward. This fixed my problem permanently.

My document won't print. Printer says Check Paper

It most likely means you have a paper jam. Check to see all the trays where the paper would pass through. In and outwards.... you will find your piece of paper.... it can also be very small too so pay close attention. Remove it and try sending the document to be printed again.

Lanier Printer LP131n

Don't be mad, but it never hurts to ask if you've checked the following...
  • Made sure that the printer has not been set to use legal or A4 paper in tray 1. You can set this through the options listed in the menu map on the printer display.
  • Have you checked that the Word document is not setup in the "normal.dot" or in the document itself to use A4 or legal as the default paper type.
  • Is the small paper resize lever in tray 1 pushed flush against the 8.5x11 paper in the feeder so that it detects properly.
Less obvious...
  • Did you make sure that the print properties are not setup with the wrong tray configuration...i.e. listing a duplexer when one is not present, additional trays, or a feeder?
If the answer is that you have done all of this and the issue has not been resolved, I would try looking for obstruction above the primary feeder tray, in the gear assemblies in and around the bottom of the printer and the tray, or around the paper sensor. (a small plastic lever in the front of the tray.
