Download the drivers and install manually based on the web cam's model. Search the Internet for the model # and 'driver.'
Also, make sure Skype is the latest version by downloading fresh from the Skype site, This can alleviate many problems with webcams not being recognized right away or at all.
Most Webcam's today are plug and play, just plug the webcam into one of your USB ports and let windows or MAC install it for yourself. If it doesnt work, use the CD that came with it to install the driver. If it didnt came with a CD, open your web browser, go to google and type the model number of your webcam plus the word "driver" download the drivers or software related to your Webcam and that solves it.

When you installed the camera did you use generic Windows drivers? If so, try going to the logitech website and downloading the latest drivers for the web-cam. Unplug the camera before installing the new drivers, it may prompt you to plug in your camera, if not plug it in once the installation is complete. Restart your computer and make sure your plugged in as well if it is a laptop. Another reason for no response could be no power is coming through the USB port, either because the power connection is burnt out (this doesn't mean that powered USB devices don't work in the port) or it reverted to a 1.1 version of USB. This is a common glitch that can usually be fixed by changing USB ports or restarting the computer. Make sure you don't have too many devices being powered only through the USB port. If any USB product also comes with an adapter always use that adapter if possible instead of using the USB to power it. This will ensure a longer life of your ports. If the latest drivers are installed and you know you have a working USB port that provides power then you more than likely have a bum camera. (Electronics generally fail either very early or very late in their life cycle)
It sounds like you need to check your USB controllers through Device Manager as well as reinstalling Yahoo Messenger.
1. Go to Device Manager and verify that there are no yellow exclamation marks or question marks, if there are reinstall them. 2. Test your webcam after this point because one of the USB drivers should be your webcam driver. 3. Reinstall Yahoo messenger and test it with your webcam.
By deleting drivers in Device Manager, your computer will attempt to do a reinstall only if your computer needs that driver.
Just copy the drivers from your cd to some USB storage media, hope the USB is working fine on your laptop, then you can install the drivers and use the webcam.

unplug the webcam, install the file from the download above, if it comes up new hardware found and asks for driver, give it the location where the file extracts to.
if it dont go into control panel, device manager, see if you see a "a usb device, unknown device along that lines with a yellow tag beside it, double click on it if its yellow and select update driver and give it the location of extracted files..
and hopefully you will get it working..
