I recently purchased an nec versa s970 and I am having major problems with the wireless connection. It may work then the next time i boot up it doesn't. If I press the wireless LAN button in the top right hand corner twenty or thirty times it will finally glow green and allow me to connect but sometimes I could press it hundreds of times and nothing. The wireless LAN icon at the front of the laptop has no problem turning blue (indicating bluetooth active) but rarely will glow green (indicating WiFi). With one click or three clicks i should be able to turn the wireless lan on but this is not happening. Is there an internal way I can turn the wireless lan on? i am operating on Windows XP.
I have exactly the same problem - it is driving me mad! Clearly a problem with the s970 and not unique to my computer...I tried the press three times and wait...and nothing.
Anyone able to suggest a solution? As asked before, is there an internal way to turn the WiFi on? I am also on XP.

Hi,
Replace the battery,
They don't last forever, and do fail over time.
If it works on the A/C mains, this confirms battery needs replacing.
Or re-cell the battery.
The phone jack does not fit because it is an RJ45 network port. If you are using a cable modem or router for your dsl connection you should be able to connect directly with a cat5 network cable.
Or if you have a free USB port you can purchase a wireless adapter like THIS ONE and use it via the USB port.
This is a pretty old laptop about 10 yrs. It does not come with wireless support. It probably has Windows 98 installed on it. You might be able to set up wireless via the USB port.
