How much shock do i put in my 15;x42'' pool - Intex 15' X 42" Easy Set Pool Complete Pool Set

It has been 15 years since I owned a pool. My best way was to shock pool with a liquid shock , run filter for a day then broadcast aluminum sulfate with filter off. Usually in a day or two all debris is on bottom of pool. This debris must be vacuumed to waste because it will clog the filter.

look for products with brand names such as pool clear , pond clear etc
the chemical attracts the floating particles or mud/ algae takes them to the pool bottom to be sucked up with the cleaner or taken to the filter

What you appear to be asking is the volume of your Pool in gallons! Here is the formula and resulting answer:

Length X Width X average Depth X 7.5 (for rectangluar) (or 5.9 for a circle or oval)

You need to know 3 values:

The overall length in feet (assuming 42 on your note)
The overall Width in feet (assuming 16 on your note)
The average depth, take a depth measurement at 3-4 locations equally apart along the length from deep to shallow (or vice-versa) (example might 8ft, 6ft, 4ft, 3ft) add these measurements together and then divide the total sum by the number of depth measurements (example 4) this will be the average (example 5.25)

So the resulting formula would read 42 x 16 x 5.25 x 7.5 = 26,460 gallons for the example

So if your pool's average depth is about the same, then your volume is rounded to about 26,500

Your shock product should clearly state how much one bag will treat a given volume (example 10,000 gals) for regular treatment or shocking. Usually shocking involves doubling or even tripling the normal maintenance dosage, but check the product labels and instructions for manufacturer's recommendation.

yes i put pure bleach in my pool....I only use one bag of shock it about every month or so and i use 1 and half gallons of water each week. U can about tell when u will need to add it..when the water starts getting cloudy. My pool is a 20 round...8,800 gallons, so if u have a smaller pool for instance a 15 round.....5,000 gallons, i would only put maybe 3/4 of a gallon and a smaller pool about half a gallon of bleach per week.

Now how to put the bleach in the pool is what u need to focus on. The way i do it is where the water is returned to your pool i open the bleach and make sure u r wearing old clothing because i didnt once and i had bleach spots on my shirt due to the water splashing back up through the return. Well just pour slowly where the water comes back in the pool.....this is to prevent the liner from bleaching. So i suggest that u do it as slow as u can...its a lil but tidias when u pour it in compared to just dumping a bag of but its well worth the money u save. Pouring it over the water that returns to ur pool is to make sure it doesnt hit the liner and bleach it.....the water from the return will mix in with what u are pouring so that wont happen.....It will save alot of money...i dont use any other thing in my pool but bleach and shock it like i said about every cpl months and all the shock it is for is to settle everything to the bottom so i can vacuum it up. don't run the pump until the pool is full. You should buy some test strips and test the water . The strips will tell you what your low on. You will need chlorine for sure and probably some shock

Pure bleach, gets mine clear when it turns green. If its just clear water with a green tent then i would use bleach. I only use bleach to maintain my pool. I have a 20 round 88,00 gallon pool and i use 1 and half gallons of bleach every week to keep my pool clean and i use a bag of shock it every month or so, all the shock is used for is to drop everything to the bottom so i can vacuum it. If u have a smaller pool then i would use about 3/4 a gallon a week on a 15 round 5,000 gallon pool and about a half a gallon for a smaller pool. But it will for sure get ur water clear and if u dont want to use bleach then shock it will do it and to maintain use the shock it atleast once a week. When u use the bleach make sure u pour in over the where the water returns in your pool slowly to help it not hit the bottom. When u pour it over the clean water that is returning to your pool then it will help spread it throughout your pool and dilute it so it wont spot your liner up with lil bleach spots. So just pour it slowly over the return water comin out of the side of your pool. Also if its an algea problem then bleach will def work to prevent and kill the algea and u can u an algeacide to get rid of it if u dont want to use the bleach. The bleach is the cheapest way and fast way i have found to keep a pool clean. The most obvious thing besides not having salt in the pool has no stabilizer in it. This is a chemical that has an affinity for chlorine ions and if it is not there the chlorine can be disipated in a few hours when the sun hits it. Another name for it is Cyanuric Acid. It can be purchased in granular form at many pool supply stores or in a liquid form at Leslies. In order to get your pool blue you need to have the chemistry checked at a pool store or with a test kit (either liquid or strips). Don't buy everything a pool supply tells you to buy but start out with vinyl safe shock, stabilizer and salt. The pool store should be able to help you determine the dose. The following is what I would do:
1. Make sure salt is at the recommended concentration.
2. Shock the pool to recommended dose to start killing the algae.
3. Place the recomended dose of stabilizer in the pool.
4. Make sure pump and filter are working properly.
5. Check the pool chemistry on a daily basis until it is ready for swimming.
6. Check the chemistry on a weekly basis and clean the pool and equipment according to the pool instructions.
