SOURCE: Replacing a power cord for a Dewalt electric drill

some of the dewalt drill switches have a one way trap (like) for the wire. you push the wire in and the harder you pull it gets tight on its self. your wires go in the bottom of the trigger look right on top of each wire there is a small **** (no bigger then 3/16) for a flat head screw drive. In the **** you will see a small lever, it needs to be turned at the same time pull. It will help to have a friend.

SOURCE: got a broken drill chuck i cant get off (Dewalt)

first remove the chuck retaining screw LH thread, next shift the tool to the drill only position and the low side. Find a bent handle allen wrench and insert the short piece into the chuck and clamp down, place the chuck with the long portion at about a 30 degree so you can strike it counter clockwise, usually a block of wood or work bench will do and then get a hammer and safety glasses and hit it, it might take a couple times but it will come off

SOURCE: the chuck is stuck on 18 volt dewalt drill

It is not the chuck that is stuck, it is probably the armature. Probably a problem with the brushes. Since it is so easy I would try first unscrewing the caps and pulling the brushes out to see if things spin then. If the brush will not come out then it is probably jambed and you would have to take the drill apart. If you take the brushes out and still have a problem, at least one reasonable but simply checked problem is eliminated.

Dewalt dw005

Remove the cap and the circlip underneath and slide it all forward. Pull back plate holding the small ball and remove it. Put drill bit into a vice and pull on the machine. If it still won't come out you might have to tap on the main spindle with a copper hammer to knock the spindle off. Check the spindle for damage before reassembling.

Dewalt 24volt dw005,... as soon as i put a battery into the body of machine the battery starts to smoke ,the drill still works but to me seem's like its got a short circuit .i've took handle o

To be sure it's the switch, check for continuity between the positive and negative contacts at the terminal block, where the battery connects to the tool, with the switch off. There should not be any continuity there, if there is the battery will have a constant draw (short circuit) on it which will cause it to overheat and smoke if left on long enough. The switch is replaceable, it's part number 487136-00 but shop internet stores, the switch is around $75 +s/h.

When I pull the trigger on my Dewalt dc925 xrp hammer drill it's working for a bit then stopping and starting

it sounds like you have a problem with the switch or battery. Try cleaning the battery contacts first and then remove the battery and look into the tool and see if the switch contacts are bent not allowing battery to seat firmly. If that is OK then I would think that you need a new switch. MAKE note of how you remove it because it is polarity sensitive. Let me know if you need more assistance.

My JCB 18V cordless drill is not working when you press the trigger. The battery is fully charged any ideas please.

It's probably the switch; mine judders and works kind of. Slight burning smell coming from it, dismantled it to discover that the switch has started to burn out, so far no luck finding a replacement.........

JCB are totally useless, no help from their support phone number!

Dewalt cordless drill dc988- drill motor works intermitantly when trigger is pulled. Works a little better as it warms up. Im thinking vsr switch, brushes, or motor/armature. please help...

Test the brushes by catching it in a stalled condition when you have it triggered, then rotate it slightly. If it takes off suspect the brushes or a dead segment on the comutator.

If it doesn't respond to this, then consider the VSR trigger... open it and test by bypassing it when in stalled condition...

18v dewalt battery gives off burning smell

18v is one of the newer models, correct? And the drill is new? If so there will be some smell as the motor breaks in. The srmsture is varnished as well as the windind for the commutator. The first few times it get s warm/warm from a heavy load, You will smell it. I would say there is nothing wrong at this point.Do not overload the motor and avoid drilling at low speeds. Use the variable trigger at low speed only for starting a hole. If you are driving screws start the screw, then full trigger driving it in. Good Luck, Ned
