We were given a PDV-709 DVD player by some friends that does not play DVD's. It will play audio CD's just fine, but when we put in a DVD an error message comes up and says that there is no disc. Is this a problem that I can correct and if so how? Thank you for your time.
Hello riceclan_dad
It could be a compatibility issue w/ the media you are using. To that end, ...
(01) Do you get this error msg. w/ original DVDs?
(02) Or are you trying to play DVDs created at home?
If your answer is YES to (01), then it is unlikely the issue is media incompatibility.
If the answer is YES to (02) (and NO to (01)), try using DVD-R dvds (media) rather than DVD+R (DVD+R is a newer standard that older players do not recognize).
There is another FixYa post (similar issue) w/ one solution HERE. The expert suggests having the lense (on the DVD player) checked and possibly replaced.
Please, let us know if this helps.
Thank you,
BJ
Hello riceclan_dad
Hopefully by now, the issue w/ your DVD player has been resolved or diagnosed.
We can't always repair your problem for you here on FixYa.com but we can, as I did for your problem, provide key information and links to resources that will enable you to pursue a diagnosis or know what steps to take next to get your device repaired.
Since I did provide you w/ these things, would you mind taking just a moment to re-rate my solution to a "FixYa" rating? I would be most grateful if you would not mind. :)
Thank you kindly!
