No it will not erase programs, a memory chip is used when power is on your hard disk holds permanent data.

When I do a cold boot, i get a message that my Inspiron 2200 has a module that needs to be reseated. Press escape to ignore. I press escape and then I get message to press F1 or F2 keys, which does...

You have a memory chip lose. Here is where you get your drivers.http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dfh&cs=22. You need to select your model or put in the service code on the back of the laptop. Be very careful updatinf the Bios. You can permanently destroy tjr motherboard if not done properly. The message you get is from a lose memory chip. Unscrew the memory cover on the bottom of the laptop and reseat the memory. A little trick is to use a pencil eraser on the memory contacts to clean them. Wipe off any residue with an alcolhol wipe and reseat the chip. If all else fails contact me [email protected] Phil

When adding additional memory to my inspiron 2200 laptop will it erase all the information already on my computer?

Memory is not used to store data; It is used temporarily while utilizing the system.

Your operating system and user data will be stored on media such as a hard disk drive. So to answer your question, no.

Dell Inspiron 2200 Ram Upgrade Help

I have worked on several I2200s and never encountered the Plate you mentioned. The vented memory door: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins2200/en/SM/upgrades.htm#1084976
Should rotate away from the chassis and expose the memory slot.

Will replacing the car battery clear the computer chip?

No, it will not clear the computer. You can safely replace you battery and not worry about the computer chip being cleared. This will no more erase the memory from the computer in your car than unplugging a computer will erase the hard drive on a PC. The ECU memory is programmed in and will not be erased. It may erase the radio code & presets and require you to insert it again but that is all.

Notebook shutting down

take out the chip and see if it works better, if it does, you have to put the same kind of chip in it as the one that is in it. make sure they bouth are the same. they have numbers on the get the same name, most poeople put in differant brands and they dont work well together.

Installiing memory in inspiron 1000

You compuer comes with this already installed.

  • 512MB PC2100 DDR Memory
  • You can only install another 512MB total 1G.

To get into where the chip is should be underneath that laptop secured by two screws.  If you find there is no chip inthere already then all you need to do is place the other chip into the slot.  The first is already in there and to get that you have to go through the removing the keyboard.
