Try the monitor on a different computer. If it works, then you are having a computer problem. Usual computer problem that causes monitor to not come out of standby is a hardware issue.

If the monitor does not work on another computer, then it is broke. If you are not good with circuit boards, I suggest taking it to your local electronic repair shop for a quote on repair. Personally if it was me, I would just get a new monitor if it fails to start up on a different computer.

Hannspree HF-289H LCD Monitor not displaying anything.

conor455, I am sorry to hear that your lc display has been struck down with the "BLACK screen of DEATH". Most likely the "switch-mode-power-supply/inverter supply" has failed!!! If your monitor is out of warranty then i suggest that you find your way to my fixya profile and read some of the responses I and others have already written about the BLACK screen symptom and what you can do to try and repair it!! YOUR DISPLAY IS SICK. The SMPS is in SHUTDOWN mode trying to save itself from further damage and or catastrophic nonrecoverable failure. eg. sparks, smoke, fire!! Leave your monitor OFF and do a little bit of research of BAD electrolytic filter capacitors and other stuff that causes LCD backlight's to fail to light-up. Conor, when you asked "ANYONE KNOW THE PROBLEM?" all I can say is visit YOUTUBE and search for and view some of the longer vid clips of "lcd monitor disassembly and/or lcd monitor repair to help YOU to make a decision as to the fate of your HF-289H. Bye for now. If this info has been of some use, please rate this response on fixya! 12fixlouie aka louie12fix

I've had my monitor for a year now and last night my screen went black. It flickered a few time before it completely turned blank. If you look closely you can see my desktop on the screen but it is almost...

pmeyers843, If in fact your LCD is only a year old, I would first contact Gateway to see if they could do some sort of swap-out with your unit whoose switch-mode-power-supply and/ or cold-cathode-fluorescent-tube power supply (called an inverter circuit) has failed prematurely. Yes, this does happen to a lot of monitors of all brands not just Gateway! But it is way more likely to happen after 36-48 months into the life of well used lcd monitors that have lots of "ON" hours use! I also suggest you pay a visit to youtube and view some videos of LCD repair to show what are some of the components that typically cause a failure similar to your's. Get back to me if you need more info. I hope that this helps to solve your BLACK SCREEN problem. I'mlouie12fix on fixya or [email protected]
Good luck. Bye for now.

Colored vertical lines on monitor

Have you unplugged the power cord to the LCD? Let it sit for a minute, then try it. ALWAYS buy a UPS and plug any computer devices into it. Doesn't have to be big, a $50 unit will protect it from dangerous voltage surges.

Monitor remains black when on

The monitor should come when the power button is pressed once - period. If not, and it continues to happen when connected to another PC, then the hardware (internal electronic part/s) is having trouble powering up the panel/ccds and it should be replaced/serviced according to the terms of the warranty. I suggest to bring the unit to an authorized service center to properly diagnose & fix it. regards

TV BLEWUP

What would cause that is failure of some part (probably a filter capacitor) in the set's power supply. The usual cause is component stress due to manufacturers keeping their costs down by using parts that just barely can stand their operating voltages. (Higher rated parts would last longer, but would cost more.) Some parts are just a little too weak and break down. It's not unusual to have this kind of problem these days. The set would be repairable unless there was physical damage to the circuit board itself. You might have it looked at and get an estimate for the repair.
