From your question, I deduce that:
1. You are installing a Sound Crad Driver from an OEM Vendor (Toshiba support site).
2. You are runnimg Windows XP. in the case of Windows Seven/Vista, these two platforms support a generic HD Audio Driver (hdaudio.sys as verified from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool)
3.In that case, you need to download and install:
(a). The Intel Chipset Drivers for your device.
(b). The Microsoft Unified Audio Architecture HD Audio Driver , which you can download here as a HotFix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111). Click

4. Once you have downloaded all these components and installed them, go on and install the Realttek HD Audio Driver from your OEM Vendor.
