I bought this ACER AL1716W monitor new about two years ago. It was made Aug 2007. But since I bought it off a guy who didn't want it, but only wanted the CPU it came bundled with, ACER has refused to honour its warranty. Tough luck for me. Anyway, the monitor worked perfectly until about a week back. When I power up my computer CPU, then my monitor.......I realised there was no light on the power button. The monitor had no power at all. I changed power cable, didn't work. Plugged it into another computer, didn't work either.
Since ACER is not helping me out (unless I pay them : 1. Verification without proceeding to repair/service: $50 2. Labour charge for repair/service of system: $80 3. Replacement of faulty parts: to be advised by the service engineer. ), I have no choice but to attempt to fix this myself. And I am soooo glad I found this forum.
I have removed the power (inverter?) board. Capacitors are not bulging, eveything looks fine, to my untrained eyes.
So, based on the symptoms I mentioned, what could be wrong?
Hello Cornloh, Hi! it seems to me that the switching elements are not working, you need to check the Power transistor for shorts, and replace the IC (switching IC, usually IP3842). the easiest is to use an Oscilloscope to read/find the pulsing signal.

If you have it repaired, you will more likely to be charged $80~90, I would put that money toward a new monitor, just do not expect them to last more than 3 years on the new monitors.
Your monitor is still under the 3-year warranty. Go to this Acer website https://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx to begin the process. Hope this helps.
In my mind everything should last forever but cause most everything is manufactured overseas in bulk, there is bound to be problems cause of lack of quality checks and recalls.
In your case cause there is no power then its either going to be bad caps on the power board or a bad lcd that is shorting out the monitor.
Either way it would be more cost effective to buy a new monitor unless you have good soldering skills to where you can look for puffy caps and replace them with caps of the same value.
sounds like a slightly damaged power supply. try powering up with an equivalent supply. if only an ac wall cord is plugged in for power, then internal supply is at fault
