Can't get the tomtomXl working

Use it once since gift for christmas. When you turn it on goes into the picture of the tomtom and freezes there. didn't receive a manuel with it so have no idea what could even be wrong. HELPPPP!!!! thank you Regina

Depending on the version of the unit there are a couple of things you can try.

1: look for a reset button underneath the device, if there is one press and hold it with a paperclip for 5 seconds
2: plug the unit into your PC and update the software via tomtom home if this doesn't work give tomtom a call and go through there troubleshooting tips

All's i get when i turn my tomtom on is a picture of a tomtomxl. it does not ask any questions so i can get started or nothing
This sounds as if it isn't completing the "boot up". Try sticking a long thin plastic point into the small round reset hole under the bottom. then try turning on again. Allow same five minutes for it to boot up from scratch. It should give a tomtom
drum noise as it starts successfully.

Try updating the software. I had a similar problem with a TomTom One and that fixed it. You can download it from the TomTom website.

Do a soft reset. If you look underneath, there is a small hole with the word "reset" beside it. Push a pin or cocktail stick into this for 10 seconds

Unfortunately the device is not very user servicable. Your best bet wuold be to find a repair shop and get a quote on repair vs. new.

Frozen tomtom
Try the reset button on the hole in the bottom of the unit. I had a frozen unit after attempting to upgrade and this made it work. Use a paperclip to press into the hole, it will reset the unit.
