You get to the viewfinder by putting an eye to it. The Rebel XT works as SLRs have worked for half a century, showing you the image through the viewfinder. Only more recent dSLRs have a Live View capability, allowing you to use them as point&shoot cameras by viewing the image on an LCD.

Are you saying you see nothing when you look in the viewfinder? The optical viewfinder near the top of the camera, not the electronic display on the back. You've got the lens cap off and the battery charged, right?

Change from lcd moniter to view finder

Try this, in your manual at the bottom of pg. 229 that says, "If you turn off the power while the 'shooting settings display' screen is displayed, the same screen will be displayed when you turn on the power again. To avoid this, press the <INFO> button to turn off the display on the LCD monitor, then turn off the power switch."
The converse also applies. Get into the shooting settings display with the INFO button and power down. The display will come on when you power up again.
It also solved my problem of getting the mode selection button selections to show on the LCD when needed.

Powerless

You may have a short if anything. Did you put the fuse in with the unit unplugged and power off? That is the correct way. If you did it this way and you have your problem, then i'd look for shorted wires

The Limit Prot LED on my RCF Art-321A speaker remains on upon power up. The speaker also pops upon powering down. What do you think it could be? Thanks

The amp is blown. Some popping on power down is NOT uncommon, but the protect LED means the pwer amp is out of balance which is ******* speakers. Take in for repair.

I can help you fix the BUSY Error or Error 99 of your Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D.

Installation of this Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update will solve these problems:
  1. Some cameras may exhibit a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the BUSY indication remains lit in the viewfinder.
  2. The message, "Err 99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to<OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery", appears on the camera's LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out,the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.
See the firmware instructions and download the firmware upgrade by following these Fixya Tips :

  1. Follow this link to download a pdf version of the firmware installation instruction guide.
  2. Follow this link to download the Windows Version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  3. Follow this link to download the MAC version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  4. Follow this link to download the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D Instruction Manual.

I hope that helps.
