Drop the drivebelt by swinging the tension-idler with a crescent wrench and popping the belt off the alternator pulley.

Dis-connect the battery.

Roll the electrical connection boot back to get access to the connectors and remove.

Back out the top mounting bolt (it may be stubborn, don't be afraid to put weight on it) and swing unit out to get easier access to the lower mount.
Drop the new unit in place and start the lower and upper mount bolts...re-connect the electricals...tighten the mounting bolts.
Swing the tension-idler to re-mount the belt.

re-connect the battery.

If it's located at the front upper left side of the motor you need to first remove the belt tensioner bolt. Then you can gain access to the lower mounting bolt to the engine block. Remove it then remove the upper engine brace so you can reove the belt. unplug the harness connector and pull out the alternator. Reverse procedure when installing the new part.

Changing alternator on 2001 chrysler sebring convertible do you have to disconnect the air conditioning to change the alternator

Should just be the serpentine belt and then the alternator, it is a little tight to work area wise.

Can the regulator be changed without changing the alternator

Depends on the year make and model.
GM cars used an alternator with a built-in voltage regulator since the mid 1970s.

replace the alternator. or you can change the diode trio if it is on the outside of the alternator. this is the part that changes the alternating current from the generator (alternator) and makes direct current

If the belt is 3 yrs old or older, change it. If it has oil or anti-freeze or grease on it, change it. If new, add more tension to the belt.
