There's probably no need as long as the aspect ratio is set to your liking:

System > Preferences > Display

However, if you need a better experience in Ubuntu, you might consider looking into your video card. There are some proprietary drivers out there, notably Nvidia, which are also free to download and use, though you'll never get the source code.

Ubuntu update manager error w failed to fetch 404 not found

Hi
When running ubuntu update manager if you get an error saying w failed to fetch 404 not found. In most cases you need to look into your DSN settings to fix this problem. Your DSN under your network setting are wrong. You can double check the setting on your Router or with your ISP's website

The setup file is an .exe file which doesnot run in ubuntu 10.04 lts edition. So would u help me to install the modem in ubuntu.

Assuming the modem is connected, click on System - Administration - Additional Drivers
Wait while ubuntu searches, then click on and activate any drivers listed.

If that doesn't resolve, try connecting to a router/modem - Enable networking (top left hand corner of screen) then click on System - Admin - Update manager. See if an update can resolve the issue.

I installed Ubuntu together with Windows XP but in the process I lost the ability to see (in none of the OS) the USB drives, how can I recover them?

In Ubuntu, go to Administrator/Hardware Driver Update. It will run an update to check drivers available against your hardware. BTW new version of Ubuntu available at the end of the week. Ubuntu Upgrade If that's unsuccessful, run a normal Ubunto Update to do a driver/support search. In XP, boot up,, insert your install disk and right-click on My Computer/Properties/Device Manager. There is an option at the top to "Scan for Hardware Changes". It should recognize the USB hardware. When it asks where to get the drivers, point it to your installation disk which should have all of your USB drivers on it.
Best of luck and enjoy Ubuntu!
