Holding down the power button as you did, is only helpful in clearing CMOS. This does not seem to be your issue. The battery itself is the most likely culprit, power cord or not- it will not work without a good battery. Start with that as your troubleshooting procedure.
Please run this unit on A/C only and see if it powers up like that. If it does not, then the A/C adapter is faulty and thus cannot charge your battery.
Service the battery by hitting it flat onto your hand palm or onto the back of your shoe and retry to see if it is charging.
TRY TAKING YOUR BATTERY OUT FOR 15 MINUTES THEN PUTTING IT BACK IN. IF IT COMES BACK ON, RECALIBRATE YOUR BATTERY BY LETTING THE BATTERY GO DOWN TO 5% THEN PLUG THE POWER CORD IN. YOUR BATTERY MAY NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH TO TURN THE SCREEN ON, EVEN THOUGH YOUR BATTERY METER SHOWS IT HAS A GOOD CHARGE. QUICK CHARGES OR FREQUENTLY UNPLUGGING IT CAUSES THE BATTERY METER TO READ DIFFERENT THAN THE AMOUNT OF CNARGE THE BATTERY IS ACTUALLY HOLDING. RECALIBRATING IT WILL GET THE METER AND THE BATTERY BACK ON THE SAME CYCLE.
Sounds like a lose or burnt charge terminal. Fixing would require disassembling the laptop and resoldering the loose or broken connections. You might want to try a different AC adapter first.
Try removing the battery..then attempt a power up. make sure there are no USB devices connected as well. Take some time, it happened to me, it was caused by a non USB compliant lamp! The machine would not start at all.
