Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera Logo

Lens stuck I had been turning my Sony Cyber-shot DSC W50 off and on a few times, when suddenly as I went to turn it off, the lens got stuck and couldn't retract--just made this horrible mechanical noise like it was trying to do so but something was awry. Then this message comes up on the screen "Turn the power off and on again." I do as asked. Nothing. I take the (fully charged) battery out and see if that does the trick. Nope. No matter what I do, the lens will not retract, regardless of how many times or how long I try and turn the camera on and off again. Is there any possible reason why this is happening, and is it something that I'll be able to fix relatively cheaply and easily. Or is it hopeless and I need to just bury the poor device? I hope not, because I'm a student and really rather broke! Help!

the lens is stuck how do I get the lens to return

I have the same problem and have heard that banging the camera around will help get it back into working shape. That didn't work for me.

Probably going to have to get a new camera.

Didn't know that these were disposable digital cameras.

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 and my lens was stuck after a trip to the beach. As you turn on the camera, gently tap the bottom of the camera on a hard surface (i.e. a hard cover book). You could also use an air-duster spray to blow out any grains/dust around the lens.

Knocking the camera sounds like it works but may create another problem. I have had this problem with p-100 , p-200 and now the w50, I have found a small drop, of wd40 placed on both sides ,two opposing sides,of the lens ring where it extends from the body will work also. Don't spray, its a bit too hard to control amount deposited. Use a toothpick or a stick to dip and then drop the oil.

Hello,

Bummer huh? I dropped mine a while back and damaged my battery cover!

I would try...taking out the batteries and reinstalling them! This may reset your camera?

Otherwise, I would do a web search and type in:

Hope this helps you get your camera working again!

Kind Regards!

Zoomlens stuck

Examine the lens carefully. you will see that the outer lens is out of line with the inner lens. . hold the camera firmly with one hand using the fingers of the second hand firmly nudge the outer lens back in line. reinsert battery and test.
Good luck,

Hi!
It's probably stuck focus. Contact your local Sony service center, but if they ask too much, you can contact me at [email protected] and I will give you a good price.

Sony cyber-shot dsc-w50

Sounds like you have two problems, both which mean bad news. The clicking could be a broken gear in the lens unit or off track lens.
The colors may be caused from a bad ccd or sensor internally.

Sony cybershot DSC-W50 lens problen

thats normal.
it just doesn't have enough power to bring the lense back in.
once you charge your battery and turn it on the lense will automatically come back in and then out for you to take a picture.

Dropped camera and lens Dstuck , sony cyber shot DSC-W50

There are 3 pins in the camera lens that slide in grooves allowing it to move you have knocked out 1 or more.
only an experienced tech can attempt fix , camera must be totally disassembled.
