You need either a blue Ethernet cable to connect the Xbox to an internet outlet or a wireless router. If you use the wireless router, hook it up to your computer so it broadcasts a signal, then, depending on what Xbox you have, if its the new 360 slim you won't need a wireless adapter, you search for the signal, then connect it. If you don't have the 360 slim, then you need to buy a wireless adapter and it plugs into the back of the Xbox.
If you have the AV cable that has the switch on the Xbox end, make sure that it's in the correct setting. Your cable could have shorted out if this does not work.
xbox 360 consoles only supports DSL and cable internet cricket run 3G or HSDPA which technically using mobile signals which is equivalent to a dial up xbox cannot connect to the internet if it is less than 1mbps
your router may have incorect connection settings. what i mean is that your router may have security on that rejects connecting to adapter. check if the xbox can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. this will tell for sure if the 1 the adapter cannot read the signal or 2 the adapter is not able read any signals. to test if its the adapter, try searching for other signals.if you find any other signal it means your router. is rejecting to send the signal to the xbox.
if your laptop get a signal than buy a eithernet cable and coonect your xbox 2 the laptop and go 2 your network settings and check the box that say share connection than wait a few mins. and try to connect to xboxlive this should work because thats how i get on xboxlive at my house.
sounds like you have a graphics card problem with the xbox 360. possibly loose/damaged electrical connections between the GPU and the motherboard which has caused the xbox to not display a picture. with this being a Hardware problem i would suggest calling the Xbox customer support, numbers can be found on http://www.xbox.com/support call up the support team and explain your problem.
I believe that microsoft will ask you to send the Xbox direct to them so they can fix the problem for you, it shouldnt take long to correct !
