To get a wireless internet connection for Xbox live, you will need a high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL and a router, gateway, or wireless access point (WAP) that is compatible
with Xbox live. If your XBOX360 console is first generation, you will also need a Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter. If you are using a wired connection, you will need a network cable. Plug the network cable into your router and the other end into your Xbox 360. On your Xbox 360 console, navigate to "MY XBOX" and then select "system settings" Next select "Network settings" and then select "Test Xbox Live connection" Select YES when the prompt appears asking you to update your software. After you become connected, there are two choices: Free membership of Gold membership. Step 1 Form your Xbox 360 you need to be connected to the Internet by a straight LAN line or wirelessly. You can test you connection by going to the setting screen on your Xbox 360.

Step 2 Once connected to the Internet for your Xbox 360 go to your main account screen and find the tab that says "Join Xbox LIVE" click on that link then follow the simple instructions that the Xbox LIVE will provide. At this point you should have a name in mind for your gamer tag.

Step 3 Xbox 360 LIVE has several different options available for memberships. They are a monthly, 3-month and 12-month membership accounts. I would recommend a simple one month account if you just wanted to check out the features offered on XBOX 360 LIVE. If your an avid gamer and love to play games online with friends, the 12-month Gold membership is the way to go.

Step 4 Once you've completed the process of joining Xbox 360 LIVE, they will send you a confirmation email confirming your membership. Now you can log on to Xbox 360 LIVE and start doing this like customizing your avatar and playing online multi-player games.

I don't think that is an xbox live related problem. to check if is an xbox 360 problem or the xbox live, or maybe the hard drive. Remove the hard drive and try to play a game like this. if it doesn't play is the xbox 360 since all the info for xbox live will be in the hard drive.

If you have a newer arcade xbox 360 they come with an internal memory, so the xbox live info could be there. If that's the case delete the gamer tag that has the xbox live capabilities and try it again.

You can always recover a gamer tag from any xbox.

Note: you don't really download anything when you connect to xbox live, it's just like connecting to the internet. All they need is your info to be able to connect.

things you can do..... first start by connecting your 360 to the router and run a test through the system setting menu on your 360 dash board.... to do this go to system setting menu and select the network setting menu.... after selecting network setting there should be an option to test you`xbox live connection.... this is the first step in trouble shooting.... if your xbox connects to the network or router than the problem may be in the Internet connection.... after you have a connection between the xbox and the router... connect the router to the Internet and run the the test again... if you are connected to the network and the internet but still not to xbox live try doing a system update to update your system with xbox live.... after doing all of these steps you may have purchased and xbox that has been banned from xbox live and will not be able to join xbox live..... a more simple solution is that you may not have an xbox live account and simply need to set one up... this can be done through the xbox or you can go to www.xbox.com and set up a live account... you can also find FAQ's and trouble shooting steps there

In theory you should be able to "share" your internet connection. I use a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router and I have a Linksys Game adapter on my son's 360. He has not complained about lag or slow server times unless other intensive bandwidth is being used.
