Acer monitor al1917w-a problems

At start up the monitor either goes to black or goes very very dim only readable via sunlight.

Checked all display settings (brightness...etc) and I pushed them to 100% and still nothing.

I am running Vista and this is a 19" widescreen monitor.

I assume that you already try this monior with other PC and still get the same problem. You may have to open it up and inspect the inside, look for bad components such as capacitors in the power supply, the problem can also be inthe backlight inverter circuits also. See example of failed monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

Lcd acer al1917w dispay problem

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

Monitor black screen

To me this sounds like whats called "bad caps" problem. The capacitors in the PSU have gone out of tolerance and the back light is switching off. If this is the case you will need a workshop repair or if you know how to solder you could replace the capacitors in the PSU for the back light.

My monitor comes up during start up but after 60 seconds or so it goes into sleep mode? and the monitor goes black

You might have it connected using the wrong port on the back of your computer. The monitor will display the BIOS and post messages but once it gets to windows it will turn off. The other possibility is you need to either reload the driver for your video card, change the default display device in the bios, or replace your video card.

Does the ACER AL1917W have web cam capabilities?

ACER AL1917W is a fine monitor but it doesnt have Web Cam.
You can buy a Web Cam separately and connect it to your computer.

Acer AL1917W blinks off in a split-second, twice

remove power to your monitor; then remove the monitor's back cover and, front cover;
when you can see the circuit board check for a buldged can capacitor or, two; replace these by unslodering them and, resoldering the new ones in place digikey.com sells the capacitors (don't forget the position of the capicitors they go in only one way

Monitor won't stay on. each time I turn it on it comes up for about 3 seconds and then goes black

aburnsrn, Cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps don't light-up, you will be looking at black screen!! If unit older than 5-6 years trade for new wide-screen. Else read for about 2 hrs. in my fixya profile for more options.
