The pilot light and burner went out yesterday. I got the pilot light back on but the burner does not come on. As far as I know, I followed the intructions on the tank. It was raining and stormy yesterday and drops of water were coming down the vent pipe so I'm sure there was a leak on the roof.

Any idea why my Atwood water heater will shut the main burner and the pilot light off at the same time? Sometimes runs for 20 minutes, sometimes 2. I hear a clicking sound, then they both shut off.

The thermostat shuts off the main burner. The pilot light gas is controlled by the thermocouple which the side of the pilot flame has to envelop. If the flame is too small or too far away from the flame, it shuts the gas off to the pilot. The thermocouple generates a small voltage which keeps the pilot gas open. It can over time fail itself, so look at replacing it. The thermostat sounds like it's failing too.

We had to turn the gas off to connect the dryer, now we can't get the pilot light to turn on. we followed the directions on the water heater 5 or 6 times with no luck. It seems the pilot light will not...

I would suggest that you remove pilot assembly from gas valve and burner and clean pilot orifice and see if that helps. Be careful when cleaning hole in the orifice so you don't enlarge the hole. Good luck and thank you.

Have an Atwood LP water heater. When I light the pilot light and hold it for 30 seconds or more it stays lit but the burner tube will not light except for at the air/fuel mixture slits at the thermostat...

Yes, a good place to start would be to run a burner brush through entire tube to make sure all spider webs are out, then blow through again. If that doesn't cure it, double check your position of burner tube in chamber. Sometimes if it's moved into chamber too far, it will tend to back-up flame in to tube. I've had some that I re-installed and was sure I put it back exactly where it was before, but had to pull burner tube back approx 1/8"-3/16" to get a proper flame. Make sure it's centered in chamber as well.

G4-7 atwood water heater lights great, heats water but when it cycles the pilot goes out no hot water

Sounds like the burner flame may be too strong (jumping out from burner tube) . Some people think the louder the better, but that is not correct. When burner shuts down like that, it has a tendency to snuff out pilot as well. Adjust your air shutter at burner so that the flame is a nice blue, or with just a hint of orange/yellow at the tip. Whatever setting that keeps the flame solid from burner tube, and not a big gap between tube and flame. Signs of soot (black) up the cover, or side of trailer means it's running too rich, and you've gone too far thus needs more air. Keeping the flame blue but still right out of the burner, actually heats better, is quieter, and should eliminate that pilot getting snuffed out. Pilot should also be a nice blue flame as well. There may be a problem with positioning of the burner tube as well, but doubtful if it has been running well in that position before. Let me know what happens.

No hot water. Cold water coming out of the all the fixtures in the bathroom. The gas supply is ok.

Hello,
Check the thermocouple. The pilot went out and so the burner will not light. Replace the thermocouple, then light the pilot light and the burner will come on and make you hot water.

Pilot lighting

1) Open the door on the bottom of the tank to show the burner. 2) Turn the valve to "pilot" and depress. 3) Light the match, (best if you have a candle/grill lighter), and follow the skinny copper tube from the valve to the burner inside (this is called the thermocoupler). At the end of it, you will see the pilot. 4) Once pilot is lit, keep valve depressed for a minute (this warms the thermocoupler, thus sending a signal to the valve saying the pilot is lit). 5) Let go of the pilot button (usually red). 6) If pilot stays on, put the door(s) back on and turn the valve to "on". You will hear/see the gas ignite when complete. Good luck!

Electronic water heater burner often won't light tho pilot's on

it sounds like you pilot lite is to far away from the burner, make sure that the burner is sitting in it;s purch, look thru the site glass it can be moved by hitting or bumping into the out side of the gas tubes on the outside of water heater, if not, the burner assembly may have soot on it. you might also want to make sure the filters are not clogged on the shut offs that will give it less pressure then it needs to make the unit come on,, write me , [email protected]

Cant get my waterheater lighter to reignite

Sounds like the gas valve has failed. The gas valve can be replaced. It will unscrew out of the tank. Shut the water supply to the tank off and get the new gas ready to screw in. Take out the old and screw in the new, you will onlt lose about a cup or two of water if you are quick enough. Otherwise drain the tank down if you must. If you are going to replace the gas valve I would also replace the thermocoupler.
