If it's XP, you may be able to workaround and boot up in safe mode, and select the manufacturer's admin login. Don't know if emachines does that though. To boot up to safe mode, press "F8" until a list of services appear. If the manufacturer's login exists it will be the login not normally shown in normal bootup. Select that and login, then go to control panel and create a new admin account. Delete the old admin account and you should be good. There is also a product by active called password changer but it's commercial. I've used this but you'll need a floppy disk drive. ERD 5.0 should also work but good luck finding that.

@jess183 A guest login exists. They would still be able to view control panel but not make any changes to the user accounts.

How to Reset Windows Password With an Standard User Account?

When you forgot Windows password, did you feel confused that why you cannot reset the forgotten Windows password via standard user or guest account? The answer is very simple as the standard user and guest accounts do not have rights to reset the password of another accounts. Within the three types of Windows user accounts, only the administrator account allows you to change another accounts' password. So if you want to reset Windows password of another accounts, you need to change your account type to administrator firstly. Moreover, if you need to give a user more access to perform tasks like installing software or other system changes, you also need to change your account type.

Steps to Change Windows User Account Type

1. Log on your Windows machine with an administrator account.

2. Click "Start" - "Control Panel" - "User Accounts and Family Safety" - "User Accounts".

3. Click "Manage another account".

4. Click on the user account that you would like to change its type.

5. On the following window, click "Change the account type" from on the left pane.

6. Select Administrator and click "Change Account" Type to finish your operation.

Since the standard user account turn to an administrator one, you can reset Windows password of another accounts or do other operations without limitation through control panel.

You can change standard user to administrator only when you can log on your computer with an available administrator account. If you forgot Windows password of all administrator accounts, you'll need to reset Windows administrator password even you can access your computer with a standard user or guest account.

Software Windows Login Recovery allows you to create a password reset disk with blank CD/DVD or USB flash drive. With the disk you can reset Windows password to be empty in few minutes. With it, you'll never be worried when you forgot Windows password. All you need to do is just three steps.

1. Download and install Windows Login Recovery.

2. Burn a password reset disk with a blank CD/DVD or USB flash drive.

3. Reset Windows password to be empty.

Now you can log on to your computer without passwords. By the way, you can reset any account's password with this software.

Something about Windows User Accounts

Administrator: A administrator account is intended for someone who can make system wide changes to the computer, install software, and access all non-private files on the computer. Cannot log in hdd user requested password where did this come from and how to bypass?

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as the user to log in once you have your computer running again you have to take control (administrator)control panel user accounts on the users tab, click the name of the computer administrator you can change the password there or if your computer has a system restore you can restore it to an earlier date which will have your personal settings
click start control panel Open User Accounts in Control Panel. On the Users tab, click the name of the user whose password you want to change, and then click Reset Password. In New password and Confirm new password, type the new password, and then click OK. You cannot change your network logon password in User Accounts. To change your own password, press CTRL ALT DELETE and then click Change Password
or if you still cant get past this password

Remove a small coin sized CMOS battery to store all BIOS settings along with the password. To reset the password, unplug the PC, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30 minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings.

Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computerthe location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.

If it fails, then try to remove the battery for at least one hour.

click start control panel Open User Accounts in Control Panel. On the Users tab, click the name of the user whose password you want to change, and then click Reset Password. In New password and Confirm new password, type the new password, and then click OK. HOW DO I REMOVE THE GUEST ADMINISTRATOR WITHOUT BEING AN ADMINISTRATOR ON MY COMPUTER SO I CAN DOWNLOAD THINGS ON MY COMPUTER

You question is not that specific so i can't give you the specific answer, there're several ways to configure this settings, but it depends on the Operating system you are using. If you are using windows Xp, log off from the desktop and press Ctrl+Alt+Del simultaneously on the login screen (sometimes you'll need to press several times), a small logon window will pop up, type administrator on the username box and if a password was set with the administrator, key in the password, or if there's none, just press enter after typing the "administrator". After you are logged in with the administrator account, go to control panel - user account - create new - and create an account (any username that you want to give) with the administrator privilege (rights) {you should select Computer Administrator}. Again log off and login using the new username and password (if you've set a password). Now with that account, you can do anything with your computer. If it's not Xp then the problem is difficult being without the administrator's rights. If you have another account with administrator's rights, then you can disable the Guest account. Good luck Thanks for using FixYa.

My administrator account is corrupt and i can not log into it, but luckily i have the guest account turned on but with this account i can not create a new account like an administrator one. so how do i...

Without using 3rd party pay-for tools, I would recommend locating the Windows CD that came with the machine. I would then boot to the CD, and use the Recovery Console option. When you get into the recovery console, you should be able to log in using the administrator password only. This doesn't load the Administrator profile, it just uses the password for permissions reasons. I would then navigate to the Documents and Settings folder (assuming this is XP) and rename the Administrator profile folder to something else. Once you rename this folder, restart the computer, log in as Administrator again, and Windows will create a new profile for the Administrator, and leave your old one alone. Once you're logged in, you can browse to the old profile and get your files and pictures back.

I put a password on my computer & then made a Guest Acct and i forgot my password. Is there anyway to get it reset or something?

log in as an administrator account then from there you can delete the guest account and create a new one.

if you do not know the administrator account then you need to go into safe mode for the computer. to get to safemode, just press F8 while the computer is booting up until you are given a menu. From the menu, simply select "Safe mode" and then login to the un-passsworded admin account. once you are inside just delete the guest account there and create a new one.
