This has been the worst range I have ever owned. I will never buy a Jenn Air again. When it was new, (now about 3 years old) it had a gas leak for almost 6 months. Repair men couldn't fix, finally someone did. Now the door won't unlock after cleaning, and the Sab light is on. Any suggestions for this lemon?

This is a frequently reported problem on some model ranges and wall ovens equipped with an Electronic Range Control (ERC) or Electronic Oven Control (EOC). An “error” code display of “Sabb" or “Sab” will be displayed and the range or oven will not function. This is called “Sabbath Mode" and it may be costing you unnecessary charges in service call fees. This is NOT a problem, but actually a feature provided by some manufacturers to enable customers of certain religious faiths to honor the Sabbath. The range will not function at all during this period and cannot be reset by unplugging the unit or turning it off. In your owner/operator's manual there should be a section that refers to "Sabbath Mode" under the control panel features and operation. This "problem" is a minor operator issue and is not a malfunction of the appliance. This is commonly reported by customers to service companies to have corrected, but the repair is unnecessary, and usually NOT covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. The reason: It is a designed feature of the appliance and considered “operator error” in most cases. What this means is you may be paying someone big money to push a couple of buttons and “fix” something that could have taken you minutes to correct yourself. Sabbath Mode can inadvertently be activated by pressing the wrong sequence of control panel buttons, kids playing with the control panel and also after a power outage. The “problem” can be cleared, but you will have to find the proper reference in your owner operator manual. Manufacturers provide different procedures for activating and deactivating the mode, so instructions may differ. I hope this helps you.

5Ab error code for a Maytag Electric Range

You may have inadvertently set your range to "Sabbath Mode". The display actually reads "SAB". This is a feature that allows the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.

To turn the Sabbath Mode on/off on most Maytag models you simply press and hold the "Clock" button for 5 seconds. These instructions should be in your owner's manual.

If this does not correct the problem for you, please post back with your model number (located on the back of the range or around the oven door opening) so that I may be able to assist you better. I hope this helps you.

Change time on stove held clock button and got a 5Ab & can't chng

Loof for the tech. sheet in the unit , either in the control panel [top] or the bottom under the drawer. It should tell you how to enter different modes on your range.

My gas range display changed to "5Ab" and does not work anymore.

You are set to Sabbath mode.
Try holding the clock button in for 5 seconds and that may correct it.

I get failure code F9-3

What a scam by service personnel.
-Simply press "Stop/Clear", then gently push the door handle until "Lock" appears on the screen. Press "Stop/Clear" again and the door unlocks itself!

Stove needs to be reset?

Hi,

Had the same problem...hold the clock button for about 3 or 4 seconds. That should fix it.

It is really SAB for Sabbath instead of 5Ab.
