I have had a Garmin 2006C GPSmap on my boat for several years. My last trip out it lost the signal and could find itself again. When I turn it on the Map comes up and it shows the location where the signal was lost (a week ago). The position has a Red question Mark (?). I can move the cursor around the map and see many of my saved locations; however, it cannot fix its current position.
The message atop the screen says "Waiting on GPS Antenna" and it just never goes away. I check fuses and I traced the Antenna wire and it appears to be connected.
Does anyone have any ideas ?
How do I find someone to service this unit?

The GPSMAP 420S will only work with g2 maps in Australia. I tried all and then was advised by Garmin.

I think all the Garmins allow to do is generate a waypoint list on your PC and upload THAT to the GPS, according to what Garmin told me about my Streetpilot C340. You also need Mapsource on the PC.

Sounds like your battery is getting weak.

The nuvi 200 series, 300 series, 600 series, 700
series, 1000 series and the StreetPilot C300 and C500 series do not have user
replaceable batteries. These units must be sent in to a Garmin approved repair
facilities if a battery issue arises. Garmin and Raytech are the only Garmin approved
repair facilities. Raytech is a repair facility for Canadian
customers. To repair your device please contact the specific repair facility probably at Garmin.com. If your device is not still under the 1 year warranty, there
will be a cost associated with the repair of your device.

Graham - what your describing sounds like you somehow managed to erase the street level maps and POIs in your Nuvi.
If you connect the GPS to the computer with your USB cable, you should at the contents of the Nuvi directories and find a file called GMAPPROM.IMG or GMAPSUPP.IMG. These are the street level map files. Generally, these are found in the root directory of the Nuvi - or if yours has / and you use a memory card slot for maps - find it in the /GARMIN directory. GMAPPROM.IMG is the name of the first map set and GMAPSUPP.IMG is the name of the supplementary or second map set (if you purchased & installed one). You will likely have only one of these files - and may be named either. The size of this file depends on the area and age of the map. Current maps of the entire US run over 1 GB in size. If you do not have any maps named GMAPPROM or GMAPSUPP, you will not see any street level maps.
Something happened to delete the maps. Garmin will probably NOT provide free replacement maps for you, unless under warranty. If the devices is trashing maps and other files, you probably want to replace the unit under warranty or not. Garmin will, upon return of your old Nuvi - replace it with a factory refurbished unit with the latest maps installed, for $79. You can take advantage of this service by following this link to Garmin Service.
I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Hello!
If your unit is still having trouble acquiring satellites, please
ensure that it has the latest version of operating software by using
our WebUpdater
program. Once your unit is updated please allow the unit to acquire
satellites outdoors in a stationary position with a clear view of the
sky.
Step 1: Download and Install WebUpdater
Click
the link above to download WebUpdater. Next follow the screen prompts
to install the application on your pc. If you have already installed
WebUpdater on your computer, skip to step 2.
WebUpdater
updates most Garmin products, excluding Palm and Pocket PC devices,
fixed-mount marine units, chartplotters, fishfinders and certain
discontinued units we no longer support. It does not perform Beta
updates. WebUpdater only updates unit software. See our All Updates & Downloads web page for related utilities, drivers, add-ons and the unit software for the excluded units mentioned above.
Step 2: Connect GPS to PC and Run WebUpdater
After
installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future
software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible
Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your
computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and
finally "WebUpdater".
