Probably not. There are various reasons that TOC errors occur, some are fixable and others not, but Sharp MD units were really known to suffer from them for multiple reasons all at once. TOC means Table Of Contents; it's an index file on the disc which tells the host machine where everything on the disc is located and the TOC is modified whenever you edit a disc. Sometimes the file gets corrupted, but often the machine itself simply becomes unable to read the disc and as the TOC is the first thing it tries to read then you get a TOC error.

If you're lucky the TOC error is limited to a single minidisc; if this is the case then it's just one faulty disc and although there are ways to perform TOC cloning they usually involve hacking the host machine in various ways which may cause permanent damage. Unless the disc is important, just chuck it away and use a new one. If the fault is with the player then again, just chuck it into the nearest electronic waste recycling bin. Spares are not available, and as it's a Sharp, diagnosis will be difficult and the fault likely to return.

Many MD players are practically worthless these days so they're often available on FreeCycle and Freegle groups: Sony are the preferred choice by far, and are also the most commonly offered brand, but take whatever is on offer without complaint and worry about problems later; after all, they are free.

What does utoc error mean on a Kenwood mini disc player

Well, what it means is

TOC errors often mean the recording head/optical block is cooked. A cleaner might work, but often it's the end of the MDR.

Are you sure the battery is correctly (fully) charged? Try removing the battery and running on (only) the charger.

try cleaning the lens with a minidisc lens cleaner.

open the unit and check the laser position - it should be all the way to the left. that's where it should start to read the disk.

When I slot a mini-disk into my Sharp mini-disk player, it always comes up with a Toc error and switch itself off.

Try another mini-disc, if the disc is working fine, then there is a problem in the reader. You might have to replace it.

MDS JE520 Disc stuck in unit Toc light on. Previous to this state C13 error flashing.

the C13 is a mechanism error. The TOC means Table of Contents which is the part of the disk that determines the beginning of each track. These units are somewhat delicate and not really DIY repair candidates. Parts are still available for these. Look for either an authorized Sony service center or at least a shop that has worked on these in the past for repair assistance. The loading mechanism may need to be repaired or replaced.

My MD-MS702 gave me very good service. Unfortunately it was not used for five to six years and now when i switch it on after full battery charging I get TOC error on all of my recorded discs. SOS, as I am...

Hi,

According to you You don't have use your disk play for a huge time, so that it may damaged or lens became dirty.

You can clear the lens with lens cleaner (clear the optical head).

check the battery was properly charged or working.

Check the disk moved properly.

To prevent the disk erase or damage slide the accidental erase prevention tab.

You can show it to the Technician.

I get the TOC Error, when I put bought cds in.

don't think you will like this answer but, it probably time to get a new cd player... you could try using a cd cleaner designed to clean the laser or spray the insides with compressed air.

When i inserted my mini disc it said TOC Reading then said Toc Error and C14. What is the problem?

Sounds like you lost power when you were finishing recording a disc. On a home unit it got unplugged before you had the TOC written, or on a battery unit the battery died when it was writing the TOC (table of contents) for the disk.

TOC ERRORa

When you FINISH recording, the Minidisc recorder Writes the TOC (Table of Contents) - so you see it flashing TOC or Update when you finish recording - you need to Leave POWER ON and have the unit on for about 30 seconds for it to finish this. IF you don't, the unit doesn't know where to find the files since there is no TOC. Try a Sony home unit - you might get one more shot at it working with that.

TOC eror

The TOC error is the same error seen on computer disks, TOC is the table of content, this has to be read before the the unit will know the details of tracks etc......

If every disk inserted (not just burned discs) has this error, the laser is faulty or out of alignment. Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.
