Hi,
I hope the camera you are talking about is ZR200 Mini DV.
As per its specifications.
It has a firewire/DV port.
Therefore,
follow these steps.
I assume you are using this cable.

I am not sure how you used the firewire cable before.
So, try this.
Connect one end of the cable to computer and other to the camera.
Switch on the camera and keep it in play/ edit mode (not in shooting mode).
When you connect the other end to the computer,
There should be a popup asking you what to do.
If there is no popup,
Open Windows Movie maker and import video from device.
You should see the camera in it.
Hope it works.
won't work usb -only for photos-use dv connection and get firewire cable to go from camera to comp-4-4 pin for laptops 4-6 pin for mac and desktops-use windows movie maker in xp or vista to edit
I don't know if Windows XP Movie Maker can detect a firewire based video camera.
Do you have DVD burning software such as Nero in your computer? That has capture capability to it.
Pinnacle Studio will detect a firewire camera. It is reasonably priced and easy to use. In fact you can control your camcorder from Studio in case you need to rewind or fast forward the tape.
You cannot connect a DV cable to a USB port. These are two incompatible standards. DV is also called Firewire, iLink or IEEE1394. You PC must have that kind of port for you to transfer your video from the ZR800 and you will need a DV (iLink/Firewire) cable. You cannot use USB cable they will not work. Check www.MyCableMart.com if you want an example.
Most new PC come with 1 or 2 iLink/Firewire/1394
port.
If you PC does not have an iLink/Firewire/1394 port then you will need to install a iLink/Firewire/1394 card (see http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-fw-byt.html) for more information.
I hope you are connecting the camera to the Fire wire port of the camera, if not, if you are using a desktop, you require a an addon card called IEEE 1394 firewire card, which you have to install it on your motherboard's PCI slot, then using the firewire cable which you get along with the card should be connected to the card and DV port of the camera, then using the MOVIE MAKER software of windows XP, you can download the video.
